Just got an email from a friend who works for the local council - he was processing a "exemption from Council tax claim" from a family, and part of this detailed their yearly income. They are 2 adults and 6 children who "cannot work".
25k in Housing Benefit a year
4k in Child Benefit a year
£12k in Child Tax Credits a year
£6k in Incapacity Benefit a year
£47,000 per year out of Government coffers. They don't pay council tax, sewerage etc.
I find this an utter scandal - that £47,000 per year equates to the full tax contributions of about 15 people earning £20k odd a year.
