the best 24 inch monitor?

Hi
1, B2430L approx £20.00 cheaper
2, PCM2 states that both are exactly same screen, just listed incorrectly by Samsung
3, The B2430H has HDMI, Audio out

Pretty sure that is it

I looked at the B2430L & it would have met my needs but have ordered a B2430H for £156.99 all in:)

I think it's worth getting the HDMI just in case you need it in the next few years. There's every chance of that imo, most new kit uses it and the cables are a lot cheaper than DVI I've found.

Very nice monitor indeed, but would 8ms G2G response time not be cutting it for fast paced games?

Response time is good for me, i play shooters all the time, i don't notice ghosting,

Maybe some people who are sensible (or got used to a CRT) may notice a difference.

The £156.99, is that factoring in something like cashback or credit? I've hunted high and low and can't seem to find it for less than a tenner dearer.

I'm not asking for a link, I don't want either of us suspended, I just want to know if I should keep looking.

Its not simply "abit more colour"

- There is so many connections its beyond usefull :P My cheap 24'' iiyama has DVI, d-sub and HDMI, what more could you want ?
- 178 by 178 viewing angles. - No colour change from angles. - Both points, fair enough, but worth double to tripel the price? Not imo, 400 quid is 32'' TV money.
- Response time is much improved on new IPS and PVA monitors. but not better than TN panels

- Stand is Much better.
- Look so much nicer.
Both above points waste of money imo and not necessarily true.

- Backlight more uniform and shouts perfection... A fair point but again not worth double to triple the price imo.

Thats why you pay over £400 for a 24".. Oh and its 1920x1200. Yippee, black bars on my fav 16:9 tv series and games like assasins creed, mirrors edge, etc, or when you plug in your ps3/360 to it... If you want more desktop space then buy a 2nd monitor imo, otherwise 1920x1080 is a more accepted format for entertainment.

I hate useing a TN pannel... cus i dont sit allways directly infront of my monitors and also i sit close Fair enough, I'm not bothered, certainly not to pay 400 bloody quid for such a tiny screen, I stand by my point that 400 quid is 32'' TV money, not 24'' monitor money

I will admit that of all of the panel types I've tested, *VA is probably the one I have had the least experience with. I haven't been particularly impressed by them for the reasons above - the 'smoke like trails' are probably a problem limited to the lack of any sort of overdrive on the Samsung C-PVAs I've tested. Unfortunately the level of aggressiveness of the overdrive needed to reduce this effect has a significant negative impact on the input lag of the panel. For many people, including myself, this is an unacceptable side-effect. The 'black crush' issue is commonly experienced and fairly ubiquitous on *VA panels and is one of the inherent limitations of the technology. It is not a minor issue, either. There are reasons why IPS technologies from LG et al. have been much more widely adopted than *VA other than in monitors such as the BenQ priced to compete with the TN cohort.

i have the samsung P2450H and its a lovely piece of kit. ok its not up there with the really expensive monitors. but for the price you cant beat it. currently the best selling 24" on amazon. i was really ummming and ahhing about it for weeks when i finally came to a decision and just bought it. i havent regretted it.

I got my P2450H yesterday. I'm planning to write a more detailed review, not long, but also with pictures when I'm ready. I'll give my first impressions though:

Pros:

Great looking monitor. Very nice.
Good size, ideal with Aero Snap.
Contrast is good, better than my old monitor for sure.
Quite good amount of customisation available on the OSD.
Scaling of non-native resolutions to full panel size is much, much better than my old Samsung 226BW. Shame I won't be using that feature.
Response initially looks great, no trails or artifacts observed yet. Conversely, my old monitor at 2ms used overdrive and produced white trails. This appears to be much more a true 2ms panel rather than an overdriven 5ms. That or the overdrive is miles and miles better. Samsung call this 'overdrive' RTA (Response Time acceleration) I believe.

Cons:

Stand is rubbish. No weight to it and as such the thing wobbles everywhere. Will probably need a desk mount.
Touch buttons take a little getting used to, not a major issue but may annoy some.
Settings out of the box are pretty far off perfect. Brightness wayyy too high like most new monitors really. Seems to have a slight dominance in green, though my old one was the same with blue before some tweaking. I think this one will need more thorough calibration.
Vertical viewing angle is quite poor. This is probably eccentuated because of the size of the panel (at the same distance from my face as the 22"). However, this is expected with any TN panel. I think a more adjustable stand will help alleviate this for me somewhat.

Overall, not the large jump in IQ I was expecting from my last panel. I think rather than a bad thing about the P2450H, this is more of really high praise for the 226BW. It was leaps and leaps ahead the Hanns G I had before that. The P2450H is a good picture with potential to be absolutely cracking once it's set up right. The only big let down is the stand, but it doesn't offer less than most in this price range anyway.

Very pleased with my purchase, the extra real estate will come in handy. Without seeing in the flesh the competition, IQ is hard to place within all new monitors.

I think the previous two posts sum up the P2450H nicely.

alex - I also noticed how good this monitor is at scaling, compared with my previous monitors. The stand hasn`t been an issue for me, but I did read bad reports about the stand before I made the purchase. My main gripe is the relection of screen images onto the bezel, but it isn`t a deal breaker.

And although I`m no follower of fashion or style, I do occasionally stop and stare at the monitor casing once in a while, and part of me goes "niiiiiiiice !".
