Just started gaming in 4K and decided to start completing some games, the so called classics, on my 4K setup. The game that has impressed me the most is Tomb Raider, it looks amazing even better then some current games.

Has any of the older games amazed you in particular in 4K?

I'm playing Batman - Arkam Asylum after this, but having played the start of it, it hasn't really done anything for me graphically, so I'm interested to see what other games look amazing, sort of 1+ year old.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (best looking game I've seen)
Crysis 3
Metro 2033 & Last Light
The Talos Principle

That's an interesting list. Got Ethan Carter, that looked great at 1080P! Just cannot get into it. Crysis 3 is amazing, forgot about that, tried it and it's on my list. The oil rig at the beginning with the storm is unbelievable. I have Metro 2033 Redux, I had a feeling that that would be amazing, thanks for the heads up. Never heard of the Talos Principle, gonna look into that...

Batman Arkham Knight
Mad Max
MGSV
Alien Isolation
RYSE

Most games made before 2013-14 looks a little ropey texture wise upscaled to 4K.

Alien Isolation, oh how I didn't like it, but I think I might try it again, not scared of the Alien, I'm scared of the difficulty! Might get RYSE if it's cheap, got sort of into it on the X1.

Not sure when Tomb Raider came out, but maybe this is the "Revised" version for the next gen console hence the "Ultimate" setting which is above Ultra. It sounds like all/most ports from the next gen consoles are the ones to investigate the most. But PC Only games, I'm sure there must be more gems...

RYSE

RYSE is the only game that's advertised with 4K support that I've seen. Will look for the best price(£15 cdkeys so far)

Trine 2 and 3 look stunning in 4k (even better in 3d, as they have normal TV 3d support as well as proprietary 3d support).

Witcher 3 would also look amazing if your rig can handle it. Maybe bf4? Single player was especially pretty.

I've thought about Trine 2, it really is a lovely game, sound, mechanics, characters, puzzles I just can't get into it. But maybe 4K will draw me into it a bit more, if it does till completion I'll look at 3. Witcher 3 didn't look as impressive as I thought it would or even shoul, my rig runs it pretty well, g-sync makes up for lack of GPU power in all cases.

BF4! Another game I've got and WANT to complete, I've got to the Ship part, after saving the Chinese people, will certainly play that, thanks for the reminder. The latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is pretty awesome, I had terrible tearing in cut scenes before G-Sync so it was one of the first games I tried, tearing gone and single player looks a blast, got a canny way through it so will go back to it at some stage. FPS isn't my favourite genre, will probably start with Crysis 3 in that department.

Lords of the fallen looks good at 4k, Far cry 4, Max Payne 3 and Shadow of Mordor do also.

Got all those. Farcry 4 is on my to do list(tried it and it does look awesome), Lords of the Fallen, I couldn't beat the second boss with the shield, just couldn't figure it, but will install it to have a look. Max Payne 3, never completed that, surprised it stands out in 4K... will give it a go. Shadow of Mordor just can't get into, it was mainly the depressing surroundings and pretty difficult combat at the beginning that put me off, if 4K improves things maybe I'll get into it. Added to list in anyway.

So I have about 10 games to do so far, that's on average about 350-400 hours! that's 6 months before I touch Metal Gear or Mad Max, but I want to play these older games, I do not want to miss out playing past classics, or games that are fantastic in 4K.

It is a looker and a genuinely great game to play, it is a shame that the Xbox one has a strangle hold on the new game for however long as it was a title I was really looking forward too! :(

Yes it is great, the graphics get better as you go along, no other game has impressed me so much, taking into account the age it's unbelievable. Least we know with Microsoft we have a better chance of seeing it on PC. After seeing this Tombraider in 4K I won't bother with the X1 version at all, call me shallow, but I'd rather wait.

That's a problem on your end. Shows up fine for me on multiple browsers.

The screenshots show the monumental difference in image quality. Not sure what your problem is with that. If you can just look at everything in YouTube, then why even start the thread? Just go watch vids on YouTube. I was trying to give actual evidence of the improvement that can be had with the games I recommended.

Strange. I wanted peoples recommendations, then I look. Saves making a gigantic thread of screenshots. I've played both and they're good.

I gave recommendations. And showed what the difference is so you don't have to go and do the work yourself(YouTube isn't even the best way to compare with the compression).

Anyways, sorry for trying to be helpful.

Thanks for sharing, those were probably the first 2 games I tested :) I take people by their word, as the likelihood is I'll have the game ready to install, so I checkout youtube mainly for gameplay to see if the game is actually good, also you can get an idea how good the textures would improve.

Agreed with lots of the recommendations above, but particularly the Vanishing of Ethan Carter. It's just mind-blowingly beautiful in 4K.

I'd say that GTAV offers the best balance of gameplay fun with 4K though. The performance is pretty good.

I'm genuinely surprised at the number of titles that are 4K-ready, even some indie Unity games that scale up the UI/fonts pleasantly.

I'm going to checkout Vanishing of Ethan Carter's graphics, thanks.

I just completed GTA V before I went 4K unfortunately. Have tried it out and it does look good. Must admit Tomb Raider has impressed me more than GTA V, both gameplay/story and technically.

Just completed my first 4K game, what a classic Tombraider really is, I think it topples my experience of the Last of Us.

Just got a 73% completion rate and unlocked just 34% of the Steam achievements, I think I'll re-visit the Island at some stage :)

So pleased I hadn't completed this before 4K.

EDIT: I don't think I'll be able to wait for the PC version, probably get the follow up on the X1 now!

RYSE does look great in 4K but its a very uninteresting and fairly boring game IMHO.

Must admit, didn't like it on X1. After finishing Tomb Raider I've moved onto Wolfenstein: The New Order, a title not mentioned(apart from the guy who said any titles from 2014/15) as I love the gameplay, got pretty far before I upgraded my PC.

I've had to revert back to Windows 8.1 and forgot it wasn't Cloud save, but the beginning is so epic and I love the story it is a joy returning to it.

Awesome in 4K.

Gta v has to be my favourite .
Also worth a mention project cars , mad max and Fifa 15

I think GTA V is most peoples favourite, I literally just completed it when I got my new setup. I've seen a new texture pack which looks awesome in the works too, will play through it again as it's so blimming good.

Had a go on Project Cars yesterday, just Karts as starting a career, I think a proper wheel is needed for this, something I'll look at getting in the future, looks great in 4K and not to demanding at all.

Metro 2033 Redux on the other hand is demanding, the FPS is all over the place, in places you don't expect, very poorly optimised game. I prefer Wolfenstein, then BF4 and the latest Modern Warfare, and that will be my FPS covered.
