Spare a thought for the 21-year-old Citigroup intern who has a placement in the company's Real Estate Equity Group in London, and whose birthday invite to her friends found it's way onto the internet and has done the rounds at investment banks all around the world. We at Here Is The City received a number of copies of the e-mail. We have confirmed it is authentic.

advertisment
We're still not sure whether this e-mail was meant tongue-in-cheek, so we shouldn't be too hard on the young lady concerned. It has created quite a stir, though, and is another example of why staff (even interns) need to think carefully before they put anything out on e-mail. When the fuss dies down, we think Citigroup should offer the intern a job. Whether the e-mail was meant in jest or not, we like her style. She's a hire!

Here's the mail:

Finally, it's not just a Citigroup intern who has made the news. According to The New York Observer, a Lehman Brothers intern had quite a time of it at the firm. 'On my floor, there were two interns', he said. 'So the VP proposed a hot-dog eating contest. So the challenge was to eat 15 dirty-water dogs in 20 minutes and to hold it down for an hour. There were lots of bets placed and taken. We stood to make about $200 each if we succeeded. After about 10 hot dogs, the other intern started looking sick and ran off to the bathroom. I managed to finish and regretted it for the rest of the day. So disgusting. But at least I got the cash'. That intern should go far!! Another definite hire.

LMFAO!!

Initially distributed by my good friend who's interning at Citigroup, this email has spread around the internet within about 24 hours. You get all sorts of people...

Oh and her name etc has been blanked out.
Her name is Lucy Gao: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,630-2327707.html

One of the key things to take away from the email, is don't use your company email to send birthday party invitations, especially if you're a rich, spoilt princess, and the people who you're inviting are working in a bank (i.e. slightly morally bankrupt)

A rich, spoilt princess wouldn't have a birthday bash at a louche, tourist trap hole like the Ritz.

And she wouldn't be working in a noveau sector like real estate in the equity business of a tier 2 investment bank.

Nor would she mention class, or feel the need to instruct her friends on how to dress.

Are you REALLY sure that this is " The best banking intern email ever!"?

Did you test others? Did you take repeat readings?

I don't think you're right.

:/

Oh so she's just being a bit snooty.

Not directed at the OP, but reading the Times comment, people really need to get a life and not write a rant about these things. So what? You don't like her, don't go to the party.

Sounds just like any other ultra-posh well organised party. Knew a party that was in a Georgian townhouse in Kensington, with the floors divided into different types of party, including chill-out, funk band and general party area...

Personally I don't see what's wrong with White Lightning in your local park

It's an open invite to get ratted at the Ritz, at her expense.
As in OPEN.

As in anyone that reads it now has the means to go.

It's not particularly amusing, but it is particularly easy to grasp.

It would have been amusing if accompanied by stories of thousands turning up to her party.

Citigroup is tier 2? I know they're not Deutsche Bank, but still.

She a princess in self perception. The fact that she considers herself in the position to throw around invitations such as that, and that she's giving instructions with the assumption that everyone else is uncultured and needs education is quite amusing.

The fact that her intern peers and seniors had a good laugh and sent it to all their banker/lawyer friends all around the world is frankly hilarious.

That was certainly the best banking intern email I've ever read!

ElRaz was right, we do need more Tru.

It's actually the 2nd best one I've read. Once I read one that was just so good. Even at the time I said it was likely the best banking intern e-mail I'd read, and I stick by it
