The best Vocalist of all time?

Tom Jones lol??? I can go down to the local karaoke and hear someone with a similar voice. He's crap, his music is even worse :p

Stunning voice = Eva Cassidy

Voices I have admired over the years... The best? who knows.

Matt Bellamy... amazing range, control and power.

Bono... back in the Unforgettable Fire to Joshua Tree era... again the power was huge.

Kate Bush... Yeah, weird at times, but there is only one KB.

Morten Harket... verged on the operatic at times, and a great falsetto.

Tom Chaplin... Crystal clear and a huge range.

Thom Yorke... from delicate to bloody scary.

Steve Knightley - English folk with a differance.

Montserrat Figueras... pure beauty - sadly passed away.

The best ever? Maybe not. But my favourites:

James Dean Bradfield Manages to combine power with range.

In the earlier years, he was also handicapped by having to sing TWO other people's words - Nicky Wire and Richey Edwards - the latter of whom made him perform some drastic feats to squeeze the words into 4:4 time:

Greg Gilbert (Delays). An astonishing voice. You could say that it is falsetto except that he predominantly sings in this range.

And a bit more up-tempo:

Freddie I thought was an awesome performer with some fantastic songs. Didn't really think of him as the greatest singer ever though :)

Yeah thats what i was thinking, Mercury one of the greatest showmen, performers.

Michael Stipe. he of the Rem, show Whitney some love. She might have lost her way in life, but man could she belt it out.

I saw REM live twice and Stipe has a great voice - like the best he sounds extremely good in person and doesn't rely on "auto tune".

Sir Freddy of Mercury.

/thread

Absolutely this, he was amazing and his range was just incredible.

Kate Bush... Yeah, weird at times, but there is only one KB.

I agree, although not technically brilliant she was completely unique even to this day. And her voice produced some the most original music to come to the charts

Love when topics like this come out for a public vote of a limited set of individuals with their limited set of exposure. The best? Robbie Williams.

while i'm not the biggest fan of his style of music i have to say Elvis is one of the greatest voices ever

A lot to choose from but some of mine are

Mike Patton (faith no more)
Ronnie James dio
Sebastian Bach
Frank Sinatra
Alison moyet
Chrissy Hines
Kate bush

Kurt Nilsen

Not a huge fan of his style of music but I think his voice is awesome:

Skip to 2:00 in. He is the one who looks a bit odd...

I'd have to say the best would probably be Eddie Vedder.

However, my favourite vocalist would be Shannon Hoon, late lead singer of Blind Melon.
