The Bourne Legacy

Given how painfully average the first 3 were i think this easily falls into the 'avoid' category.

Yeah the first 3 are definitely 'painfully average'.

The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) - 94%
The Bourne Supremacy (2004) - 81%
The Bourne Identity (2002) - 83%

Obviously average.

Go back to watching Transporter 10 and Transformers yeah.

Mr Krugga...fair enough. It's just when I watched Contagion I remember thinking he was fairly fat now and couldn't pass off someone as badass as Jason Bourne. However I know he'd have a team of people dedicated to making sure he was super buff again.

He looked really terrible and old in that movie, I agree.

Surprised the third gets the highest average, I figured that honour would have gone to the first or second (my favourite) films

The third was actually my least favourite, I loved the first one, the second one is second best in my opinion and the third was a bit... boring. I love Jeremy Renner so I have no problem with him taking over, even though Matt Damon is a great Jason Bourne. :)

Jeremy Renner will be Aaron Cross, the character Jason Bourne will not feature. This is Bourne Legacy, not another film with bourne in it as such.

Exactly, he is also not in the minority, there was someone else further up the page that wants to avoid it.

Do people watch the Bourne films and think they are going to be some kind of deep 'Shawshank Redemption' type film, or do they switch their heads of and watch a good action trilogy?

:)

A lot of people read the original books and loved the complex world created where everyone distrusts each other, with a myriad of power struggles going on behind the scenes and the main character slowly trying to unravel the mystery of who he actually is. To make that source material into a pure action movie (albeit a decent one) just feels like a cash in.

So this takes place concurrently with the Bourne Trilogy? If that's so, then I like that a lot. A level of cohesion which is both brazen and confident.

That makes sence, was it not originally said that in the world of bourne, there are men like him doing other things, and this film explores that, and will eventaully lead to a meeting of such men, for good or bad.
Bourne vs the new dude, or working with him etc in a later film.

I wish they'd re-make The Bourne Identity in a way that was more faithful to the book as it was one of my all time favourites.

It's odd, despite the angry "FU Damon for not doing sequel, we'll find another wimpy average joe to take your place" vibe to it and the whole "in todays episode of Days Of Our Lives, the role of Treadstone agent Jason will be performed by guest actor Thatguy W. Hatshisface" comedy value , the rest of the main cast seems to be made specifically of people who "wouldn't do sequels for any money even if it kills the franchise" - Weisz was made by Mummy series, but refused to do last instalment, effectively killing it, Norton picked up Hulk, just to refuse any repeated performance and force it into reboot. This looks like insurance jobbie preset to fail. ;)
