The Callisto Protocol

Only just woken up, havent tried mine yet. Will give it a go in about 20mins time. Really disappointing to hear these reports though as I was very much looking forward to this one. Fingers crossed it runs ok for me, wouldnt be the first time a game has run fine for me but cack for everyone else, heres to hoping.

Lol who actually pre-orders a digital item? Especially when crap like this is released. Everyone should know this by now, the gaming industry is a shambles.
I suspect people do it because theres nothing to lose. If it turns out rubbish just refund it, no money lost. Steams guaranteed refund policy has done more for preorders than anything.

I mean it does run good to a degree, With ray racing disabled it's over 100fps at all maxed settings 3440x1440 - It's just the usual perf hit that halves the fps when RT is enabled which means DLSS is needed or a workable AI upscale solution, hell even XeSS might have been doable lol but the FSR solution here is broken whether on purpose or not remains to be seen.

Having said that, aside from the new scene stutters, the game does run at a steady 50fps+ mostly just pure raster performance if RT shadows are turned off and RT reflections set to medium.

If FSR worked and there were no stutters, then all the other quirks are easily ignorable IMO.
Ah well if the issues are mostly to do with RT then I might well be fine with it. I almost never turn on RT in games anyway, its never really impressed me all that much. Trying the game out in a few mins so we'll see what happens.

Second impression - only on the starting ship at the moment but stuttering not as bad as I expected. Occassional stutter but not as bad as expected and not enough to make it unplayable. Might change when I leave the starting ship though.

Two annoyances so far though...

1) Having to hold a key down, bugs the hell out of me when I have to hold E or F or something. Ubisoft tend to do this a lot. Just let me press E or F, no need to be holding a key down.

2) Cannot play back an audio log and then carry on walking and have it continue playback...instead you have to sit in the inventory with the audio log if you want to hear it all. Bit primitive that in this day and age really.

So far though, running better than expected. Will see if it gets worse once I've finished with the starting location

You can carry on playing the audio in the background. Don't click the back keys to go back to the inventory screen but instead after it starts playing just press Tab to get back into the game. Audio continues in the background.
Ahh good good, thats one of my annoyances knocked off then. Graphics are amazing, especially the faces

3rd impression - little bit more stutter now that I have left the starting ship but much better than I thought it would be based on reports. Still playable.

As it stands currently I wont be refunding. Not seeing anything that cant be remedied with an early week 1 patch, so will continue playing and stop just before the 2 hours and then give them a week for a patch before making a refund decision

90mins played, much better than the apocalyptic reports I've read. Does need a performance/stutter patch, when the stutter kicks in it drops to 20fps for a couple of seconds but after that its fine, actually wondering if its happening when its autosaving. Not going to refund it at the moment as in between those stutters its a really enjoyable game, will give them a week to release a patch. One thing I will say , I thought the fire effects looked pretty bad, oddly they kind of stand out as the rest of the graphics look really good which makes the fire stand out more but overall, enjoyed the 90mins I played and though there was stutter it wasnt as horrendous as I'd expected given the reviews.

What an odd graph, it dropped by 15,000 before it even released, which is odd you'd expect it to rise in the build up to release and then drop, it almost dropped as much prior to release as it did after release.

The game is auto saving frequently, and it does not help. Far Cry 6 did the same, it's those little hitches as you move around the world and that's what I see on my setup.
Yeah, the stutters were not anywhere near as bad as the reviews suggest. At least not for me, very noticeable but not "worse game of all time" bad like some reviews are suggesting. One review even claimed that the graphics "are last gen", so god only knows what game they are playing, either that or they have an agenda with their review. From what I've played so far I think it should be easily fixable

Getting very mixed reviews from the people not paid to review it.
I expect the Worthabuy guy will slam the game and give it a huge thumbs down. Mind you, he also slated Darktide and gave Elden Ring 0/10 so I guess we can take his thoughts with a cosmic amount of salt :D

I enjoyed it when it wasnt stuttering to be fair, it was pretty much what I expected from a Dead Space-alike so was happy with it overall. If they can just fix the stuttering then I wont refund it, so I will give them a little time to do that

As long as the patch fixes the stuttering I'm fine with it. I gave them a week to fix the stutter before refunding so if they fix it in that week then alls good with me.
