The Callisto Protocol

It’s a single player game, why’s anyone ever paying £50 for this anyway? :p
To be fair, Alien Isolation and Metro Exodus were single player, as was Assassins Creed Origin, Odyssey and Valhalla, and Pathfinder and Pathfinder 2, Dishonoured, Dishonoured 2 and Prey and Res Evil Village, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, King Arthur Knights Tale and all of those were all worth their full asking prices, some of which were lower than 50 but many of which were 50. Single player titles can be worth every penny of a £50 price when done well

Valhalla and RE Village worth £50 do me a favour
Its called different tastes. RE Village was my game of the year in 2021 ( I should add that on a poll on this very forum Village was also the most commonly picked game as game of the year for 2021 :D ). Valhalla I got over 400 hours out of. :)

But why not address the actual point of my post, which was that some single player games ARE worth £50 and that a game being single player doesnt inherently mean its not worth £50

I can't imagine AMD is too impressed either - they sponsored this title and their (current) flagship GPU is unable to run it at a playable framerate with all the bells and whistles turned on.
I doubt AMD give a damn really, their revenue for 2022 is $23.5 billion. Which is up 43% compared to 2021. Have made that much money this year they probably couldnt give a hoot if 1 game title fails. Probably weighs on their minds about as much as Ronaldo not getting 16m when departing Utd weighs on his mind.

Yup, the patch appears to have fixed all my stuttering. Havent stuttered this evening. Still not too sure about the combat, I know its early days but I'm feeling extremely weak in combat, maybe once I "gear" up I'll feel a bit tougher :)

I've just seen the EULA mentioned elsewhere and holy, how can they be serious with this stuff?

"Users exploiting bugs will be liable for extreme penalties [...] all in-game items and other data will be forfeited and removed"
"Gameplay that goes against the intentions of how our game is meant to be played [...] measures will be taken against the account"

It's a single player game that you released in a ****** state and charging £50 for..
Thats nothing, I remember when the EULA came out for the original release of Star Wars Galaxies and it had a clause in it that you had to give Sony your first born child. Now it was just a joke of course, to highlight how gamers agree to EULAs without bothering to read what they are agreeing to :)

He actually gave Elden Ring a good review, over an 8 from what I can remember
He only did that after A LOT of pressure from his viewers. If you watch his original opinion of Elden Ring, he gives it a 0/10 and gives up on it before he even leaves the "tutorial" area. This is his original verdict, where he refunds the game after 38mins because the game is an "absolute joke on PC". There is so much wrong with what he says during this and his entire attitude while playing the game that it really highlights just how poor a reviewer he is.

Can't stand him nowadays. He moans about games on purpose as that's what people expect him to do; I mean back in the day a rule of his was to complete games before he reviewed them so he could give a proper view on them, but he doesn't even do that anymore. I've no idea why his channel still exists.
He started well but ended up becoming a parody of himself. Took the whole bell thing much too far really.

The trouble is that some of what Mack said in that video was simply factually untrue (about the game itself not steamforums which are indeed a cesspit) and some of his criticisms were simply down to him not being bothered to even look in the games options. Subjective or objective that is NOT the way to do a review, giving up after 38 minutes and not even leaving the tutorial is also not the way to do a review. One could say that the fact that he went back and re-did it , giving the game a high score might also suggest that he himself knew that it was a very shoddy way to cover the game too.

I should also add that something CAN be "more objective" without being objective. More objective =/= objective, hence the word "more". In his original Elden Ring video Mack set out to dislike Elden Ring, he went into it intentionally to dislike it (ironically just as he did with Dark Souls and just as he has done with a few other titles). No reviewer of anything, be it game, music, movie, novel, vehicle or any other product, should ever go into it with the intention to like or dislike it.

Anyone that takes Mack the meme seriously needs to have a think. Surely you know by now this is his "thing"?
Slating games does appear to be his thing, particularly if the game is a big name title but he did say after the initial backlash to that video that he stands by what he said in it, was only far later, that he U-turned on it and gave the game a high score. He always makes a point of stating that he is one of the few honest reviewers and tells the truth when others dont.

Could be a lie within a lie though I suppose. Trouble with being like that is when does a person take Mack the meme seriously. Is his 0/10 review serious or to be ignored or his 8/10 review serious or to be ignored. If the viewer doesnt know if any of his reviews are "real" then that means you have to ignore every single review he ever does...which obviously isnt much good if you are trying to be a reviewer of products.

I wrote a little review from a personal standpoint of the game on Neowin for anyone who cares to take a look. I think i was pretty fair and scored it on its merits but removed points for its downfalls.

I expected more, but still enjoyed the atmosphere and overall gameplay.

Thats a decent review, if I may give a little feedback on it and this is just a personal thing, I'd open with the Developer/Game section and move the technical part that you have at the top, to just before the Final Thoughts section.

As I say, just a personal formatting thing but I've always liked the Developer/Game Info > Graphics > Audio > Gameplay > Multiplayer > Longevity/Replayability > Technical > Conclusion method of reviews. I've always felt thats a good flow for a review.
