Cheers Fett,

I'l keep at it and try something different possibly with a DA (the vallet pr0 achilles mentioned earlier), r just hav another good go with some SRP. Gave it a good claying, although the clay from cleanyourcar is a few years old and doesn't take off as much tar etc as I would like.

Before polluting this thread anymore can you recommend anything else to get the small tar spots off, or just keep claying/use some fingernail?

The best tar remover by far is Autosmart Tardis, wipe it on and 10 seconds later the tar is a liquid streak you wipe off. But it only comes in bloody great tins at £20 a pop. I've got enough to melt the M6 but there is an issue with shipping it, so I'm not sure if I can send you some, have to have a look. Might be worth pointing out that Tardis is used before claying and it removes all manner of **** and really saves your clay and speeds things up considerably, strong stuff.

Otherwise I'm sure Autoglym do a tar remover which you can get at Halfords, don't know how good it is though.

edit - beaten.

I've never used the Achilles stuff but it's a cleanser and I stopped using them, not convinced they really do anything that isn't covered by other processes, but others swear by them so it's worth a go.

Your clay might be really mild as well, sold that way so you don't mar the paintwork. You can get varying grades so maybe try a more aggressive clay like Megs red, but go easy.

Where can I buy this Tardis stuff from? I think it may be prudent to obtain some before giving my car a going over.

Polished Bliss, a few other places. Problem you might have is shipping being on the IOW.

edit - there you go.

I must apologise, I think I've caused a bit of confusion here.

Been looking at this http://www.menzerna.com/fileadmin/be_user/Dokumente/e_polish.pdf

Like everything in the world of Menzerna, it's a bit on the confusing side. Anyway, in this and the rotary thread, all the time I mentioned 85RD, I actually meant 85RD 3.02, which is altogether different to 85RD. Nice naming convention Menzerna :/

Cheers for the sheet, I thought it was similiar.

I thought it always counts as mainland mail, don't know if it's the same with this sort of stuff?:
Autosmart Tardis -
Please also note that due to shipping regulations concerning Dangerous Goods, we can only ship this product to mainland UK destinations at the current time. Orders received for offshore and international destinations will be cancelled and refunded in full. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Can anyone give me some advice on how best to remove wax marks from bumpers/trim? Looks like the previous owner didn't cover them up when waxing the paintwork, so I have some white marks on a few bumper edges and pieces of external trim (I'm assuming that's the result of wax of course, unless someone can tell me otherwise - I'm still a bit noobish at this).

Anyway, the marks don't appear to wash off, so are there any recommended cleaning solutions for this particular task? Isn't that noticeable so not a major issue, but I'm a bit of a picky sod.

The Isle of Wight is no different to having something shipped to Portsmouth, for all but the most retarded couriers.

That isn't correct. Anything going to the Isle of Wight is going to be travelling by sea - therefore has to comply with IMDG regs. Nothing to do with couriers being retarded.

Fett, whats your DW account name ?

I want to read your GTR cleaning thread but cannot find it.

mines twoblacklines if you want to PM me there if you prefer secrecy.

Thanks :)

Depends on the trim, if it's textured or smooth, how old it is etc. All sorts of stuff you can try, some will mask the stains, some may remove. Heat gun, if you have one, is very effective but be careful. Pencil eraser (soft white ones are best), vegetable oil, cheap all purpose cleaner and a nail brush. Try those first before buying anything.

I'm Fett there as well, hardly ever post there, never posted the GT-R "detail" there as far as I remember, I kept the pics back to enter a show 'n shine. They were on the PB site as June winner but they only keep the last 6 months so got pruned.

Smooth textured, car is nearly eight years old. I don't want to use anything too rough on the off-chance I manage to make it look worse, but shall have a look into a few of your suggestions - thanks. (Will pass on the heat gun suggestion though, sounds like a last resort thing and I'd be a liability with such equipment :p)

Sorry, I didn't realise you were talking with respect to the fact that its a hazardous material.

That isn't correct. Anything going to the Isle of Wight is going to be travelling by sea - therefore has to comply with IMDG regs. Nothing to do with couriers being retarded.

I'd have to check, but I'm fairly sure that Royal Mail and courier loads are brought over on the nightly hazardous goods load for just that reason.

Here you go, this is from last year, never posted I think.

I asked the car wasn't washed or cleaned after the PDI so it still had the adhesive lines from the shipping wrap on. After a boat trip from Japan and a drive home, it was looking a bit dull.

Plenty of shipping wax left on which was stripped off with Tardis, you can see the wax running off below:

The arches and suspension took ages to get all the wax off, again Tardis and neat APC, some brushes and the Karcher left them minty fresh:

Car was washed with Werkstat shampoo and a foetal seal skin mitt, dried of with an airline and a waffle weave towel. Clayed with Megs white (it's so ridiculously mild, seemed the best bet for a new car). Quite a bit of contaminants (that's **** to a normal person) under the rear spoiler and the exhaust surrounds. The car apparently rolls off the assmebly line straight on to the track for a quick bed-in, I'm guessing that's where most of it came from:

pb6.jpg

Washed off the quick detailer and taped up the trim, plates off. Used green LC pads with Menzerna Final Polish II at speed 4, moving up to speed 5 using only the weight of the PC on the last few passes. As expected, not much wrong with the paint apart from a hologram on the rear and some marring from a rag I guess. First picture shows the lines in the clear coat (look at the edge of the light reflection) and then after a a few passes with an orange spot pad. Third picture is first or second pass down the side, can't remember.

Tape came off and I did the windows with AG Glass polish I think. On went a coat of Werkstat Acrylic Prime with a microfibre hand applicator. All shuts, lights and trim got a coating as well. Left for 30 minutes and all buffed off. Car was the sealed with Werkstat Acrylic Jet, 3 initial layers and then left overnight. You are supposed to leave each coat a bit of time to cure, so over the next couple of days I just added a coat every now and again, up to about 10 coats I think. Calipers and wheels got the Prime treatment as well and then a couple coats of Poorboys wheel sealant went on. Tyres had Gloss It Sig tyre gloss and buffed to matt. Exhaust was polished with Megs NXT and engine was cleaned and coated with 303 Aerospace as were the rubber trim and seals. Interior was Poorboys Natural Look and buffed to matt.

Fett quick question do you know anyone on GTROC that lives Portsmouth way that works or does contracting for SSE/SGN? Keep seeing one in my works car park but cant believe it would be owned by somebody in my building.
