Personally, to save money...FK1000, you can use it on paint and alloys.

From Halfords, avoid the spray in a can AG stuff, its rubbish, don't last that long. The FK1000 I applied to my wheels almost a month ago still beads really nicely even after 1000 miles.

From Halfords, actually I've seen people use spray wax on the alloys, like AG Aqua Wax, it works but don't last that long because of the heat from the wheels. The reason FK1000 get recommended is because it is designed for high temperatures.

looks like I need to get myself some FK100..I've had a browse but doesnt seem easy to get hold of.....

is it worth polishing alloys or should I leave as is..also what about regular polish on the headlights...sorry for a billion questions and thanks for your patience

Do people wash between stages?

It depends on what you do and whether you can be bothered with the extra stage. On a major detail I'll go whole hog and wash, tarx, ironx, clay, wash, dry, polish, wax. If it doesn't need claying, I'll simply wash, dry, polish, wax. In between then, I'll simply wash, dry.

much obliged gentlemen for all your help

While you are at it buying from CYC, get some IRONX. It removes iron deposits that you can't see, spray it on the alloys and inside wheel arch, it removes the brake dusts.

Spray
wait
agitate
rinse.

It's that easy.

You do still need to wash the wheels though, but it get rid of things that washing can't shift.

Guys, best tyre dressing?

Coming to the end if some i4detailing own brand stuff.

Was OK but didn't last very long.

Need some more. Any ideas?

PERL lol (may be I should get sponsored)

I've only tried AG and PERL, neither of which last that long because what happens is dirt get on top of the dressing and the tyre goes brown anyway.

I don't get it, you recommend PERL and then go on to explain how it doesnt actually last long? Seems like a pretty **** product to me then, why are you recommending it if it doesnt last?

I mean it works but its like covering your hand in vaseline then put it in mud.

It will still get muddy, the vaseline still there but can you see it? Can you hell.

Tyre dressing make it look nicer, unlike sealant/wax on the alloys, where rinsing with a hose will remove the top layer dust, i found that i need a brush to remove the dirt on the tyres, and when i do that, i will reapply dressing again anyway.

The reason i like PERL is not because it is purely for tyre dressing, it is because it is a product i can use on other parts of the car. I dilute some up to apply on the plastic trims, the rubber window seals and even as interior detailing. Left overs for the tyres.

This saves money instead of spending another tenner or what on a product purely for tyre dressing.

I guess my point is...i found out that I shouldn't bother about tyre dressing FOR tyre dressing, whatever i put on, dirt sticks on it anyway. It is one aspect where the effect last the shortest.

Now do you get it? :p

Not really, no. A decent product keeps the tyres black for weeks.

Please enlighten us with this magic product.

Ditto, simple to apply with a sponge, works well on black trim (such as in the engine bay/front splitter), and lasts more than a day and a half.

Lol exactly.

Try through some A roads where tractors and farm machines go through daily and it's full of dry mud, I like to see how long tyre dressing lasts.
