Bought some ONR Wash and Wax the other week as I didn't end up having access to a PW/hose etc.

Was actually pretty decent! I used a couple of capfuls in about 7 litres of water and a couple of capfuls to 2 litres of water as a pre spray in a pressure sprayer (those manual ones). I liked it for the fact you don't need a second rinse bucket and it was pretty quick to do.

It did a really good job on my car which was only lightly dirty. Basically, I pre sprayed a panel, left for a couple of minutes, got my noodle mitt, with some product so you could wring it out and the dirt simply washed away, didn't need to give anything except the lightest of wipes.
After which I used a damp MF towel to dry/buff, th wash wax left an OK gloss behind, but no substitute for a proper sealant/wax etc. and when I run out of this wash/wax combo I'll probably get the normal stuff and buy a separate sealant like Gtechniq C2 for the last stage.

It worked well on the wheels as well, although took a little more agitation to remove the brake dust, I need a proper wheel cleaner I think.
Topped off with Autoglym Glass Polish on the glass and it all looked pretty good.

Ok back in the market for another QD. Want something for removing little marks, dust etc. Just want something that'll add a bit of depth not after a spray sealant. What's everyone using?

Done & Dusted. Fairly certain there isn't a better all round QD!

My car has had Guard-X treatment on it (I didn't pay for it!), if I want to polish the car to I need to strip off the Guard-X? If so how do I do this?

Does anyone also have recommendations on a sealant for metallic black, I used poorboys nattys wax on previous car and it almost seemed to take something away from the metallic black in that I thought it looked better after a polish and glaze

Polish will remove it. Claying / decontamination is likely to weaken & remove it too.

Look at Car Pro Reload 2015 or C2V3

Another shout for Bouncers Done and Dusted looks great, easy to use and smells amazing.

Although if I'm honest I prefer Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer but it does have a bit of a sealant element too it (in that it adds a protective layer).

I find Sonax makes the paint feel a bit clingy/sticky afterwards. Although that's me being picky for what is a great product.

Best QD I've used is Meguiars Ultimate.. I've just given the car a quick wash and tried out my new bottle and it's sooo easy to work with and buff off without leaving any streaks, which was a bit of an annoying trait of the Chemical Guys stuff I have been using. Left a lovely finish, too.

I've been using Sonax BSD but I don't like the fact I seem to use so much and it's a bit waxy in the consistency. Want something a little more liquidy.

The best product I have discovered for a while is the new RainX in the spray bottle. Significantly easier to apply than the old bottle, cleans the glass brilliantly leaving no marks and most importantly places the RainX layer on the glass. Great thing is, if you regularly wash your car and do this after each wash, you get none of the issues that the old RainX had as it wore off. Even better, you only need a tiny amount - one light spray on side windows is enough, 2-3 on the rear window, 4-5 on the windscreen and just the remainder on the cloth for the wing mirrors. Really impressed. Might try the windscreen wash additive, just need to find out if you can mix it with other products.

Not been in a thread like this in a while.

Decided to give my car a long over-due clean and wax/seal but Im a bit out of the loop with what products are best to use nowadays.

Last I remember using was Duragloss 901 with a sheep skin wash mitt, followed by 2 coats of Collinite 476. Wheels sealed with Poor boys wheel sealant.

Unfortunately due to previous clean outs I have none of the above anymore!
So what would be recommended products to give my red Fiesta the TLC it could do with at the moment?

It depends on what you want really. On the one hand I would say that you could get the same stuff again and it would still give a really good finish. It also has the advantage that you have used the products before so have an idea of what they are like.

On the other hand, some of the sealants have come a long way recently. They provide good long term protection, a lot longer than a traditional wax.

I've recently got my car back from the body shop - full respray done :D

She's booked in on the 27th to get my alloys refurbished and after much deliberation I've decided to stick with standard alloy colour (what ever that is) and not opt for the black chrome colour I was considering. Now I'm using Poorboys Blackhole Glaze polish applied with my rotary polisher and either Dodo juice purple haze or Poorboys Nattys Haze wax applied by hand to my paintwork.

What would you guys suggest is best for my alloys in order to prevent the build up of brake dust please?

Right, whats what? :

What is each one used for?

Also what polish do i need to buy to take the swirls out of a black car? Cheers

Are those for a machine polisher?

The softer of the two foam pads will be for finishing with a fine polish, the harder one will be the one to use for cutting to get rid of swirls.

I've never used a wool pad but I believe they cut faster and more aggressively.

Howard above is correct, at a guess the orange will be the cutting pad and the black to finish with. Different pads cut in different ways so this rule doesn't always apply but one way to test the pads is put them face to face and squeeze, the softer pad will compress more than a harder pad. Generally, but again not always, the softer pad will be the finishing pad.

Which pad to use and which polish is guess work without knowing the car and paint. On some soft paint used on Japanese cars a finishing pad with finishing polish will be enough, hard German paint you are looking at high cut polishes on microfibre pads. You might be able to get an idea of paint hardness from looking around the internet but if you don't know for sure it is always recommended to start with the softest pad and polish and work up until you find one that gives the result you want.
