What's the general rule of thumb with clay bar and wax, once every 6 months? I do about 250miles a week, mix of A roads and motorway miles .....

Used Poorboys nattys carnauba paste wax on my MK6 metallic silver Golf yesterday, impressed how easy it is to apply and buff up with a microfibre cloth :)

Great shine & really surprised how little I used as well.

Cheers all

This thread is amazing...new car was delivered last week, assuming that I have none of the items (except a bucket) required for a minimal contact clean what are the first purchases?

I know that I need a new wash mitt and a grit guard, what's next? TFR spray? Is a pressure washer essential?

Well first off you need another bucket, google 2 bucket method :)

For a pre-wash stick with snow foam, you'll need a lance to use with your pressure washer.

Get a wheel cleaner like auto wheel, which you can use on the bodywork to for removing iron particles too. Don't forget a wheel brush :p

I bought a Farecla clay mitt about 2 years ago in Halfords as part of a buy 2 get 1 free offer, and CBA to use it until today.

It's not quite as grabby as my Bilt Hamber clay bar, but much, much quicker. I did the entire car in about 20 mins. Impressed.

Oh yeah if machine polishing I would use a clay bar before.

Just for a quick once over the clay mitt will do, plus you don't need to do it every week anyway as it can cause micro marring.

Hi guys, went to clean my 66 plate white corsa today and noticed what appeared to be "rust" spots all over the car, they do wipe off with some elbow grease, any ideas whats best to clean them off? They look horrible, also a good spray tar remover anyone can recommend? I'm not impressed with with the AG one. Cheers

I use Autosmart Tardis personally. Does a great job.

As said above, after you have de-tarred and clayed the car, I would polish it, then apply a wax and / or sealant. After you have done all that, it would be a shame not to maximise your finish, then protect your hard work. It should be much easier to keep clean thereafter, as the paint surface will feel like glass and the worst of any dirt should just about rinse away, so long as you dont let it bake in.

There are a few different polishes and sealants out there though. I have a small selection, but really what polish you use will depend a lot on your cars paint colour and hardness. Especially if you are using a machine. I use mezerna polishes with my machine, but had a big bottle of AG SRP from way back that I often use if going by hand. Similar story with sealants and waxes. I have some Bilt Hamber double speed wax (http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/bilt-hamber-double-speed-wax-cat13.html) which works well for me, and some MENZERNA POWER LOCK ULTIMATE PROTECTION as a sealant (http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/menzerna-power-lock-polymer-sealant-cat12.html). Both work very well, and give a lovely finish to my paint.

I used a Meguires clay bar on mine recently, made a HUGE difference. Some spots were big and block, some small and black and then lots of wee orange ones (perhaps ones which had 'cleaned' before.
