AG always claim a long shelf life, if it's seperated and mixes back together again, you are good to go.

Whats a good household alternative to APC? I need a strong cleaner to get inbetween window trim and the paintwork, as well as clean all around boot struts and stuff. Any ideas? I guessed Cillit Bang! But I thought if that strips a penny, what will it do to paint lol!!!

Dont really fancy buying a gallon of it!

a lot of people use like the value APC cleaners in tesco, the "daisy" stuff, diluted down 10/1 (water/product). 4/1 for arches.

yip, dont get ripped off by Megs APC. Its just not worth it. I've said before I use a citrus degreaser made for mountain bikes then an APC also made for bikes. Its cheap. I hear ALDI do some APC stuff to, but if its anything like thier food, it's likely to be laced with Ethylene Glycol!

I know this is the lazy option but this thread is rather massive. Anyway I am longing after that deep shiney reflective black finish which I see a lot off on here. My paint is diamond black BMW metalic paint but is really badly swirled and just looking for some advice on what products/machines i should buy to get the finish back to show room?

I do have quite a selection of Megs and AG products but as for the swirls I am stuck, any advice guys?

I should think that'll need a lot of work, I expect on BMW paint you'd need a DA polishing machine which won't be cheap.

I assume you've just tried waxing it but it's not much better? I think if you only want to polish it as a one off you might be best off going for a pro detailer.

go on detailingworld.co.uk and check the forums for detailers in your area, or if you're loaded stick it in to the guys at polishedbliss.co.uk :D

First time n00b

Some questions really, I got a cleaning kit for my Birthday and had a go with it today.

It consisted of some cleaning cloths, sponge pad and cleaning pad. Additionally there was a bottle of Carlack 68 - Nano Systematic Care and a tin of Collinite 915.

I washed the car then used the cleaning pad with some Carlack stuff on it, I couldn’t really tell the difference, what is this stuff supposed to do?

Once that was done I used the sponge pad to apply some of the Collinite 915 wax, I was amazed how much darker the car looked. The Focus ST performance blue is quite bright but now it looks a lot deeper blue.

I’m impressed with the wax, it does leave a nice finish, especially after the second coat.

1. How do I clean the sponge pad I applied the wax with?
2. How best do I get the wax off my hands?
3. I know the Collinite is wax, but what is the Carlack?
4. Should I be doing anything else?
5. How long will it be before I have to do it all again?

Buy some proper car shampoo [Megs Gold Class is very good] otherwise you will just undo or your hard work.
