Earlier, I received a package through the post.

It was the right address, but an unknown name. For the purposes of future clarity, let's say it was addressed to:

Mr V UNFAMILIAR-NAME
100 Madeup Terrace
Countyshire

It was a jiffy bag/packet, smaller than A4. Whatever was in it was about the size of 2 CDs stacked on top of each other, but felt heavier. Needless to say it wasn't addressed to me, so I didn't open it.

I flipped the package over to see if the sender put their address on. They had. It was:

From: Mr V UNFAMILIAR-NAME
99 Madeup Terrace
Countyshire

It would appear that my next-door neighbour - who I've never met - has posted a package, addressed to himself, but at my address.

So, GDers... why would he have done that?

e: I should add that it appeared to have gone through the postal system, 2nd class.

Asking him is, of course, a possibility I'd considered.

Unfortunately, I've already returned the package through his letterbox, so it would perhaps look a bit odd now.

Write 'not at this address' on it and give it back to the postman. They will probably check the surname against other houses on the street.

Are you actually number 99 and 100 respectively? If it was like 23 and 24 it could just be a mistake, but 99 to 100 is a pretty big step.

Course that doesn't explain why he was sending himself a package to begin with...I'm going to go with drugs.

The numbers have been changed to protect the innocent ;) but the increment is the same. We're not talking different buildings, or even two halves of a semi-detached. We're talking adjacent flats here!

Think I'll give him a knock this evening. I was just curious as to whether this was known to be a slightly nefarious practice [and if there were any ramifications for me if so]. Or yeah, just a simple trustworthiness test. But if so, why not just a letter rather than an expensive-to-post package?

randal24: was so surprised by sender's address that I didn't think to correlate it with the postmark tbh. I don't have the package any more.

You idiot. He was clearly posting you his diary so it wouldnt fall into the hands of the Nazi spies that will be watching (and probably searching) his flat!!

Now they'll have all the clues they need to find the holy grail and Hitler's armies will be invincible!

possibly planning to post himself drugs

1) post you the package with his name and your address, with the sender as himself... (i assume possibly he does not know you very well) you know who its from and give it to him.. he will know you are a good person to pass the package on and if you opened it.. he will have some silly story about a friend playing a stupid practical joke blah blah...

2) next package will NOT have his address on but it will have his name, the package will contain a kg of coke.

I would assume that if anyone gets raided its you not him.... (possibly the name on the package is not even his real name)

either the above is true or the guy is jsut odd....

It's not drugs, it's not the Grail diary, it's not a test, it's not anything you think it is.

It's a butt plug, his neighbour really likes him.
