The Changing face of Graphics... (for the none belivers) :P

I don't agree. Maybe games aren't getting more ground breaking as often as they used to, but they certainly aren't getting worse. I used to think that way myself but, after a phase of retro-gaming, I realised that just isn't true - it's usually just the fog of nostalgia that's clouding your vision. And I've been playing computer games since the early 80's :)

ps. HL2 is one of the best games of all time for me.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! :D

I have also been a gamer for a long time and I still play MY favourite games some old, some new.
Yes some older games are crap but so are some new games.

I think the Wii concept will be a refreshing change! I am looking forward to a new (or old) direction in gaming.

P.s. It is nice to play a good game WITH great graphics tho ;) If you can afford to run a rig with the latest hardware.

I think it's worth mentioning the 'feel' of a game is just as important as graphics.
sure it looks good and I'm sure good looking screenshots = more sales.

Actually what's with this 'bloom', it just makes everything glow - not realistic imo

Anyway back to 'feel' what I mean is the way the physics work when controlling the player. IMO Quake 3 wins the best 'feel' factor for me.

I still go through Deus ex, HL1, serious sam and even the original Unreal every now and then but wouldn't say 'they don't make em like they used to'. I think they do, only that those early games were around when my interest in gaming was at it's most 'rabid' :) and besides, when your fragging away at the bad guys you tend to be concentrating on the task at hand/staying alive rather than drooling at the wet and shiny brick walls.

After so many games it is a bit like 'going through the motions' I guess but I do feel lucky that I experienced Doom/Quake 1 etc. when FPS's were a whole new ball-game!

I would be interested to know what id software are up to these days now that the quake series has lost it's FPS crown.

One thing I liked recently was the first couple of hours of HL2 Episode 1. I was laughing my socks off at the storyline, comments by Alex (spel.). First time I've had real 'Fun' from an FPS in ages
