I think I might have had a grifter and my older brother (I was a child of the 80's and my bro was a child of the 70's) had a chopper. Can't really remember the difference between the 2 tbh :o

The Grifter was almost like a mountain bike looking thing that had a gear shifter on the handle bar grip for its 3 gears. The gears always broke though and got stuck in the one that was hardest to peddle. Was a real heavy bike as well, looked completely different from a chopper.

Choppers were awesome though, I'm not sure what I think of it making a return, it's just too classic and it'd be weird to see a kid on one now.

Showing my age here. :p

That was mine then. With the dual forks all the way down the front of the bike (right up to the handlebars).

I had one of these

I seem to remember that no-one else I knew had one whereas most of mates all had strikers or grifters or other 'common' bikes :p

Ha ha I used to have a Tracker can u tell. Used to have a chopper as well i can remember the label that was on the seat warning that you were not allowed to carry passengers. I took me ages to figure out why not.

Has anyone got any pictures of the Grifter? BTW that is so true about the gears, "Sturmey Archer" made. I used to bite all the foam off the front of the handlebars of mine lol :p

Edit, this is the best I can do:

Mine had lost the rear mudguard however and was in blue.
