Having heard all about kate middleton being the middle class commoner through the media today.
Say for example i won the lotto jackpot tonight does that mean i go up a rank to middle class from a working class man,for me the common person i only see is the dossers you see on jeremy kyle:eek::confused:

to me, categorising somebody into a class is classless. The only thing worth noting is how a person acts. That defines their class to me.

What you've shown there is a lack of basic understanding, typical pleb.

The class system is all but dead nowadays though, due to a high amount of social mobility.

Class is nothing to do with wealth, you could be virtually penniless and yet still be upper class (and there are people who are).

No it isnt dead i see the class system all the time,

Give us an example, because I doubt that you do.

'Commoners' are working class I thought?? They are the most common social group in the country.

Class isn't just defined by money, its defined by attitude as well.

One doesnt become upper class gentry, your born there or given a title. Rich folk who think they are, are simply new money. I guess in time your family could become upper class but it would take generations.

My understanding is as follows:

Working class = Most jobs i.e. admin, drivers, sales
Middle class = Professionals i.e. teachers, doctors, executives
Upper class = Titles i.e. Lords, Dukes, Ladies

That's the modern day take. The more traditional one is about your family and its history i.e. what your grandparents did and how they lived. As well as how you live and how you behave which comes only from how you were brought up.
