The Cooper Falling Body Photograph

Yeah, keep up MrK!

Okay, some questions for you all:

  1. Can anyone make out any details in the shadow's 'head'?
  2. If it was a double exposure, could the film have been placed back in the camera upside down? (If so, the shadow could be a photo of someone dancing, perhaps.)
  3. What year would you estimate the photo to be from?

I'd guess at late-1950s for the last question.

2) don't need to put the film in upside, the camera can just be held upside down to take a photo!

From the lens vignetting it very much looks like the photo was centered and outcropped, or cropped symmetrically.

Unless an uncropped version can be found I will firmly believe the photo was taken with space specially arranged on the left.

Interesting observation, sir. Unless it's a photo of a photo and the last chap like Instagram.

Where is the original uncropped one? What is the purpose of cropping it? I don't buy that excuse! (not from you, from the source who claims it).

I've been trying to find the original. All I have to go on is that someone mentioned that this version is cropped and that there was originally furniture on the other side.

Editors would certainly crop it to make it more pleasing to the eye. I'm not saying that this is cropped at all, but I've seen similar photos handled in a similar fashion.

Odd photo

Although as you can't find information on it dating to before last year, I think you are answering your own question as to its origins.

Are you going to make this into a regular thing, if so next are we going to have the Cumberland Space Man or maybe that photo of taken on the London Underground of Bruno Hauptmann in the Electric Chair in the background?

Why not, more interesting than half the utter pish posted in this section :).

The only places it's been posted are on forums and "top 10 scariest photos" blogs whereby the photos posted aren't really scary at all and induce more questioning than fear :p

Someone somewhere created it and is now sat back and reading all those pages quietly stroking their beard with delight!

I might do. Might be a nice Friday kinda thang, if people are interested.

My thoughts too. In fact, I recently thought it would be an interesting exercise for us to create a 'ghost photograph' ourselves and see how far it will go around the net.

I'm sure there must be plenty of photographs that reputedly show strange things such as Ghosts, Demons, Aliens, Bigfoot and the like.

As long as they are not obvious hoaxes then one every few weeks on a Friday would make for an interesting thread.

I recognise the falling man he's the actor in the film Magnolia.

Remember the beginning of the film when a man tries to commit suicide by jumping off the roof but gets shot by his mother as he passes their apartment window.

Yes its definitely him.
