The Daily Mail - in touch with the youth

Have a zero tolerance level for drink driving for everyone. Solves the drink drive issues as it is crystal clear.

Limit young drivers (or maybe all drivers who have just past their test) to a maximum speed of 40MPH for three years. Probably better ban them from motorways during this period.

Daily Mail is a great newspaper, for sure not as intellectual as The Times etc, but it has a nice mix of articles.Of course sometimes they go over the top a bit, but on the whole I like it.

Zero tolerance, I agree.

Limit ALL young drivers to 40mph is frankly, a poo idea. For 3 years?!
Lets see how happy you'll be if I'm driving 40mph in a single country lane with a national speed limit sign up? (maybe a bad example) but it isn't the way forward.

Zero tolerance however is the way, young or old, you drink and you're behind the wheel - 6 points straight.

.

Young drivers kill themselves and others on narrow roads with National Speed Limit signs as the don't have the experience. I probably wouldn't like it but the fact is that young drivers don't have the skills and experience and have far too much confidence and the tendency to show off to their mates.

Dude, all people are capable of killing themselves and others on NSL roads.

You could even argue that experienced people are more likely to cause an accident due to over-confidence and paying less attention than people who have just passed their test.

Dont they say something like 60% of accidents occur less than 500yards from their homes? no source, i heard it from some dude visiting our school ages ago.

True but I still don't think sticking to such a "low" speed is wise for building up confidence and experience. One thing I've noticed is, driving test don't have a lot of driving above 40mph - what they need is have a core marking for driving above 60mph in by pass / country lane, confidently before they can pass their test.

You let anyone and everyone who can drive under 40mph safely in and out of urban roads isn't a good enough filter for new drivers who starts to explore higher speed with little experience at it.
