I read it the same way and was hoping this was going to be "the one" these reviews always seem to pour cold water on things :(
will have to wait and see how users find it i suppose

it would be upscaled - there would be no black bars all around, maybe at the top and bottom depending on the res, but there wouldnt be bars on all 4 sides, the panel scales well at all res's so just set the monitor to 1920x1080 and you should be fine, i think you would be better off with a hdtv tho, sammy 1080p 40incher can be had for only £600-£700 now

actually you can set this screen to 1:1 , aspect or Full modes... so you get the choice whether you want the black borders or not.

so according to this review, if you want this screen for photo editing and the likes, then, is about the best display they've seen, but if you want to use it for video playback and fast action games, thay recommend you looking elsewhere.

Rgr that Sylver, in the same boat as you. Like andyr says, I'm going to see the how they perform when they become available and thoroughly tested as this will be a big investment for me and I cannot afford to get this wrong...

If anyone can answer my response time question a couple of posts back I would appreciate it, thx

This looks like a really decent monitor - with all those inputs it would be brilliant for multi-system use (server, workstation, htpc) without even considering direct connections of consoles and dvd players etc

Just hope it isnt too expensive when its released here - I can honestly see it being £2k initially - when isnt something like this a direct $>>£ translation to start? Anything below £1300 would be an absolute steal

All im worried about, is this screens, all format movie playback and high graphic gaming compatibilities, because those things are what I use my computer for, and it won't be any good to me, if it can`t do those thing suceesfully, without coming up with problems.

anything near £2000 and its best you wait for samsungs LED back light 30" screen.

nice screen, but will wait it out for a better screen.

I have never tried a Samsung monitor (used their tv's for a couple of generations though)

Currently have a 24" and 20" widescreen Dells side by ...bottom as it where and I have never had a problem with them - Samsung are also usually several weeks / months behind so I will just wait and see what the pricing is like

Paying 1-2k for this monitor in my opinion would be silly, 1080P (1920x1080) 46" TV or DELL 30" hmm I wonder what I'd go for.

Also according to an early review it has smearing in fast paced games. (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2244009,00.asp)

Yes the smearing mentioned is rather worrying Jihad...

Watching TV/DVD on a 46" TV from a distance is great but not practical for PC work which is the problem for me.

Just read a post by a chap on the Dell forums who said that they are available to buy over the phone from Dell and price quoted to him was £1332 including VAT (Gulp!)...Out of my League

I personally use a 37" @ 1920x1080 about 50cm away, does me fine, takes some adjusting though!

But obviously not everyone will be comfortable using it, IMO you're far better off going for the 32" Sharp 1080P TV's than you are with the Dell 3008WFP. Or you can get a better screen if you think you can adjust to it for general use.

Rgr that Jihad. How does the resolution/detail pan out with such a large screen @ 1920x1080 with applications like word/internet/photos and the likes? Is text smooth? Are the response times ok on these beasts for PC gaming?

Cheers

It's great, everything is perfect including apps (Word etc) web browsing and gaming, the pixels are much smaller on these screens (or something like that) so despite the screen being so large it still looks great.

Not had any ghosting on games or anything else and this has a 8ms response time!

This TV blows my old Benq monitor out of the water in terms of colours and contrast, I stopped using my Benq as a secondary because the difference was so dramatic and just got annoying!

Here's an old close up of my TV on the desktop, see how sharp the text is;

Oh, Team Fortress 2 looks mind blowing. :D

wasnt the 3007 about £1200 on the dell site though

Cheers for photo/info Jihad. Not really sure about the sharpness of the text, looks a little bloky(but much better than standard lower res TV screens of this size), but I think that is due to the fact that the pixels have to be larger with the given resolution and size of this monitor (my 24" LCD runs at 1920x1200 so pixels are smaller in relation). But on the other hand I could not sit back to far on my monitor without being able to read text and my screen shrinking in size ... Just did a quick look at what's available on the large LCD TV front and the specs have certainly come along.

@ andyr, yea most probably. Dell always seem to be more expensive when bought direct unless they have some special going on...
My budget dictates that I can't go over a grand for a 30" PC monitor no matter how good it might be :(

Lets just hope this monitor is something special when it gets thoroughly tried and tested as it can only be good for competition and punters down the line (cheaper prices/better performance).
