I went to the dentist today, bloody rip off, I sat in the chair for 2 minutes, she looked at my teeth and said they were fine, I then handed over 15 quid for the privilege
Ditto.

New NHS pricing apparently.

Got a phone call a couple of weeks ago for our son and was told that his recent xray showed that he needed a filling. The only appointment the dentist had was for 4.30 on a school day. On this day, no.1 son finishes school at 11.30, so he hung around all afternoon and then set off for the dentist. He was in there for 20 seconds, as what the xray had showed up was a coating that the dentist had put onto his teeth some time last year and so he didn't need any work at all. And to add insult to injury, he missed the school bus home and so got in 1 hour later than usual.

Anyhoooo, if you have to have any majorish work done, take pain killers 1/2 an hour before your appointment as this gives it time to kick in.

And don't forget that old chestnut. Just grab the dentist (male) by the crotch and say, "Now we're not going to hurt each other, are we?"

A Mate of mine went to the dentist to have some teeth pulled (no wait this is a true story!!), when he was (strapped :D ) into the chair and fully annethatised(sp?), the dentist (who was female and VERY Hot!!! Nicely Built!! Mmmmmmmm) was just about to start rooting about in his mouth when she said,

"If this hurts just raise your hand and I'll stop!".

So she proceded to pull his teeth.

My Mate was squirming and fidgeting in the chair but not making a noise or raising his hand!, So She carried on.

When she finished she asked, "Now that wasn't bad was it?", My Mate after rinsing (etc.) turned to her and said "That Hurt Like ****ery!", "Why didn't you raise your hand?", "If I had I'd have Grabbed you Boobs!!" :D

If it was me I'd have used it as an excuse t cop a feel!!!.. :p

I'm off to the Dentist tonite (7:30pm) but just for a Clean n' Polish, which is all I ever get due to the, at the time 28 years ago, Experimental Enammel Coating put on my teeth!, that was only supposed to protect my Teeth for 15-20 years, but according to my (very depressed because of this) Dentist its still there and going strong!!... Thanks Mum!

I had some crazy coating stuff (im only 22 tho). i think im the only person out of all my friends with no fillings at all

I take it this crazy coating stuff is nothing more than fisher-sealing? Basically a kind of plastic that coats your teeth to protect them.

most likely, and i think "crazy costing stuff" is the technical term use dby all dentists

I went to the Dentist about a 2 months ago to have to fillings done, he was rough as hell and the lesbian she-male that was assisting must have had something against men, she kept prodding the side of my mouth with the suction pipe with a spiteful intent. The Dentist that carried out the work left me in so much pain. I was getting headaches and the teeth he filled where so sensitive. I work nights so it was difficult to reschedule a time for me to return to see what he could do to sort it out. It was a long 2 months.

My missus made me an appointment but this time to see a lady Dentist, she came with a hot assistant. I was told that I needed root canal treatment and told me she could do it there and then. I jumped at the chance. I did not want the whole Marathon man experience again.

I have to say that I never felt a thing. The dentist was absolutely superb. I have to go back next on Wednesday to have the work completed, but I'm not fretting about it one bit.

I know !!!!! it was only 30 mins, even Solicitors don't charge that much by the hour. I am on denplan anyhow so it's a fixed fee of £12 a month and everything done from now on is free.

I would go to a NHS one except there isn't one around here (at least not one that takes on any new patients), mine WAS NHS til 4 months ago when it went private. Been with them for about 15 years now and i like them, they are really professional and every appoiontment has been relatively pain free.

I had this enamel coating done too! I was quite young at the time.
None of my brother have had it done and I've never had a filling and they all have :p

Seems to have done a good job, not sure why the usage wasn't very widespread, or if they still do it now? Must have been the mid 90's I had it done.

I had mine done in the Early 80's when it was Very Experimental!... (shows my age dunnit!!) and its still going strong 24 odd years later!..

I'll see if I can get some more info from my Mum as I was only 9 at the time!

Well i got there sat in the chair i had my injections and then i had a panic attack
so after all that i did not have them out what a big girl :(

I`m going to the hospital to have them out instead next week,i`d rather be asleep :rolleyes:I really have a problem with the dentist scares me to death.

You big girl's blouse. I had 13 teeth out before the age of 14, youngest age was 10. The worst part are the injections and you had em!

Ah well. Guess its too late now :o

There's no super enamel coating or whatever rubbish you are on about.

Its called fissure sealing. When your molars come out they put a small layer of filling material in the fissures on your teeth. They only protect the fissures that they are applied on.

If you didnt get any fillings after this was done, thats because your diet/sugar intake/brushing.

I wouldn't worry, i've had 3 root canals including one yesterday afternoon, it all depends on what state the nerve is in.

Twice the nerve has been damaged but not totally messed up, those were painless and were fine.

The first one the nerve had to be removed, and to be honest that hurt like hell, i just remember 5 minutes of absolute pain whilst he was drilling the nerve out.

So pray your nerves are fine :p

I also had a tooth pulled out a few months ago, coincidently it was the root canal that gave me all the pain, it was unpleasant but not painful. The worst bit was when halfway through the dentist started referring to it as "the tusk", and that the roots went so deep it must have been attached to my foot  the nurse had to help me hold my head straight as he was pulling it sideways.

But as i said, not painful, but definitely unpleasant, especially since mine didn't stop bleeding for 4 hours...
