The disappearance of Nicola Bulley

So.. . Assuming this is her.

The most likely outcome (by far) is the outcome. The outcome all the evidence pointed to.

Hopefully family can move on in time and the shameless attention seeker members of public getting involved, jumping on conspiracy theories etc can shut up.

Doesn't look good on the recovery teams "she definitely isn't in the river"

Unfortunately, we all know at best it stops the next case or two, but after that it'll flare right back up again. :(
Can't say I remember another one like this though (well Maddie was / still is a bit daft, but that was a kid abroad...) but the press and some of the public went a bit mental over this case.

if they had told the public about her other problems like they do in virtually all the missing persons cases I see on my Facebook Timeline, then it wouldn't have made the National News.

The public went way, way over the top with the Maddie case. Or at least the media did. Let's face it, it was amazingly obvious from day two that she was 99.99% certainly dead and would maybe never be seen again. Same with this case, really. It was "how" rather than "what".

Having used sonar both on a river boat (in murky water) and on a fishing boat (again in silty water) i can vouch 100% that sonar in that type of river, if she was in the reeds/roots, there would be next to zero chance of seeing her. Hell even the angle you approach something with sonar makes a massive difference to the profile it produces on screen
Angle is largely eliminated with modern multi-beam sonar.

I’ve been following this from the start and tbf, the police handled it appallingly.

I’ll assume the body found is hers, but how they missed it with the tech the “expert” used I’m not sure. Surely it would have been wise to search all the river or a vast stretch.

My only concern is, what if someone did take her and then dumped the body later in the river? Quite unlikely but could be a possibility. Maybe I’m thinking so far ahead.

I feel sorry for her family though.

If I'm remembering my CSI binging from 5+ years ago correctly, the lungs will be full of foaming if she died from drowning, during the autopsy.

Sad ending, just catching up with this, presuming it is Nicola at least her family and friends have some opportunity for some closure rather than her being missing.

The horrible thing is, I know people who have had very close people commit suicide, and they feel a lot of, misguided, guilt about not seeing it happening or stopping it.
