The Eldar Scrolls V , Skyrim

You typically show the best version of the game available, it is not in any way misleading to show the game running at peak performance levels which are available to anyone who cares to pay for it, stunning graphics only encourages more people to buy it. Bethesda has never been shy to show their games at their best so why now all of a sudden?

TES games have always been about the PC version, the modding capabilities have always made it the platform of choice for all but the most casual players.

As above, Bethesda always like to push game in the right direction graphic wise a mean and console is not the one... I hope some day people will realise that console are slowing down progress of games since day they came out.

After reading the other thread in the PC forum my fears have been confirmed, Bethesda have said that the PC version will look pitifully similar. Oh how the Elder Scrolls has fallen into mediocrity over the years. :( One can only hope that the modders will be able to salvage this game from the scrapheap.

What I find wierd is that you think it needs salvaging? Watching those videos, with the draw distance, the textures and animation. Even the characters 3rd person animations. They all look brilliant. I've got full mods on my copy of oblivion. The best ones, including the npc and creature improvements. And I don't understand how you can say oblivion looks better than what's been previewed? You Saw the mammoth and giants yeah? The scales on the dragon? the armours in the inventory screen? The magic spell effects? The real cutscenes that didn't look tacky? The kill attacks mid combo? Oblivion is pale now compared to what's coming next, modded to the eyeballs or not.

I never actually said that Oblivion looks better, I just expected much more given 5 years of development and games like Crysis which were released years ago. Though oblivion does have an infinite draw distance and textures are so large that the 360 can't even fit them in ram. Skyrim's spell effects are admittedly a significant improvement though, much needed. Finishing attacks were present in Oblivion mods. Though Oblivion is ancient and really we should be comparing the graphics to other games in development, to which Skyrim obviously pales.

However graphics are a comparatively minor issue with this game. Of far greater concern is the UI which the devs have said does not work well with a mouse, this is shocking design laziness, form over function as we experienced with the terrible Oblivion UI. Then there is the unfathomable melee auto lock-on, after all why bother playing the game when the computer can do it for you? The removal of essential features like spell creation replaced with tat like cooking, please... And the levelling system is virtually unchanged from Oblivion, essentially all skills are now major. They also removed attributes.

I think you would agree that these are quite mediocre:

The textures are pitiful, fur looks like tree bark, poor draw distance and the grassy land and rocks scream Gamebryo to me.

Indeed they are limited. But still look great to me, and although its been said that the pc version will look similar, I can imagine it'll only be in the same way oblivion and fallout look similar to pc versions. Which leaves the pc version open to higher res, real bloom, better shaders and lighting, higher textures and aa, af. And most importantly, the mod scene has a fantastic base to begin work on. I'm actually more excited about what could come out of the mod scene than anything else. I just pray to god the new engine is as accessible. Agreed about the mammoths. The textures are solid, they looked more impressive in motion. You never know, maybe pc will give better hair effects. Maybe we'll get mods for it! We did in oblivion!

So are you saying you'd rather there was no such thing as consoles?

There's no denying that PC graphics are superior but Consoles mean games more accessible thus helping keep studios in business. There's not enough money in PC gaming alone simply because pushing the boundaries of what is possible means more expensive hardware, which most cannot afford. If there were no consoles there wouldn't be as many people making games, you can be sure of that.

I feel sorry for hardcore PC gamers, ive never known one to be like "yeah the game doesnt look amazing sure, but the story and gameplay make up for it and surpass it in many ways."

All i hear from friends is "Oh no a console port, this is barely going to test my Nvidea 5billion i can see poor textures and tearing already. It barely even looks real life"

I think the game looks brilliant so far, maybe its because i have lower expectations of my lowly PS3? Loved Oblivion even with its creaky old engine and Skyrim looks like a huge step up, cant wait.

I dont care what you all say I think this looks amazing. I was sold after seeing the E3 14 minute vid, it looks so amazing and the graphics look very pleasing to me.

But at the end of the day its all about the gameplay and the atmosphere the game will bring. This has defo gone to the top of my hitlist...........I have even pre ordered it already.

It will be mine!!!!
It willl be an amazing gaming experience. If you dont get it you will be missing out on probably the best game of the year IMO. :)

The biggest thing I am looking forward to is the dungeons/caves, they look HUGE! Love the fact of getting lost in one and spending hours trekking around in one and then finally surfacing with only little to show.
