The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Hmm, found a few random encounters before doing the quest I think you mean...

Right after you're sent for the Horn of something or other, you're led to a dragon grave where a dragon I presume is the big boss resurrects another dragon? I'd downed a few by that point, had more souls than words and took out the resurrected dragon easy as pie :)

So I think random spawns happen even before that particular quest and moreso as you level up or progress along the story.

My quest log has "Before the Storm."

Which is one of the main ones I believe. I haven't done it, I just ran off and started beating up the world. :D

I can't remember exactly where you mean but there is usually a switch around. Have you checked around the area?

Yeah, couldn't find anything. Ended up using Whirlwind Sprint to pass the first one before it started up, then got lucky and managed to jump over the second. :p

So what dragon shouts are people using at the moment? I've not got a great array, but I'm quite fond of the one that freezes opponents solid :)

Unrelenting Force (I know Fus and Ro so far) is the one I tend to use most, but having just learned the first word of Marked for Death, I have to say it does come in handy especially against tougher foes. :)

I think my game glitched because for the first 40 hours I had constant dragon attacks, literally every time I walked outside winter hold college a dragon spawned. But for the last 30 hours or so I haven't seen one dragon until that mission you spoilered out.

Elemental Fury and Unrelenting force are my most used probably, for a really tough enemy i will use storm call or call draogn.

Also Dragonrend is obviously essential

What button to do shouts?

I dont use shouts or magic at all, just hack and slash..

Skyrim noooob :p

I'd hardly call it essential... I haven't even got it yet... Still going strong.

I've got quite a wide selection of shouts but have only unlocked 1/2 words for most of them.

Quite wanting to try out disarm opponent next opportunity I get.
Throw Voice seems rubbish.
Ice form I'm wanting to unlock some more words for - tends to be the one I use most in battles - great for getting you out of a tough spot where you're teamed by a couple of enemies. Freeze them all then pick them off one at a time.
Whirlwind sprint I'll use occasionally as well.

Just started on the main quest again, so am slowly getting more shouts as well. Unrelenting Force still seems generally useless though... Will have to test it out a bit more :)

Level 19 and still no dragon encounter, my mate says this is because im doing the side quests, which i am.

You're mate's wrong. I did nothing but side quests until lv20 or so, even now at lv32 I've only done up to ...

the embassy infiltration in Solitude and the Greybeards quests, which just unlock the sprint shout and power up your unrelenting force

So really not far into it at all. Lv20 or so was the first time I picked up the main quest line after leaving the starter dungeon and I already had at least 3 dragon kills under my belt...

which is why I found the main quest where you discover a dragon being reanimated so easy. Compared to the ones I'd killed so far, he was a cakewalk

So really it's just bad RNG for you :p

I think your first dragon encounter is scripted and part of main quest, after you do that you will get random encounters with dragons.

If you have not had that first scripted dragon event you won't see random dragons, so you mate is right I think.

You need to go to the tower outside Whiterun and kill the dragon there. After that you will get random encounters. Even the static dragons dotted around the map won't spawn until you do that part of the main quest.

I'v seen random dragons which I have had to run away from as im only level 10 I think.

What level do you have to be before you can seriously think you can take on a dragon?

Isn't that part of the very start of the game, what you have to do before doing anything else?

No. You get sent to Riverwood. Eventually you'll be sent to Whiterun to give warning to the Jarl. He asks you to go check out the dragon sighting at the tower. Once you kill that dragon the encounters begin. My thief is level 29 and I haven't killed a single dragon.

Any level. Just spam it with attacks and spam your potions/healing spells.
If you're a ranged player don't get in melee range and at most you'll take some breath damage that is easily healable.

Most random encounters consist of 'Dragon' and 'Blood Dragon' mobs. Standard Dragons are weak. Blood Dragons are much stronger.
