The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim engine betting thread

I would say a brand new engine, what that is though no clue But I heard it was built in house. Considering how much Bethesda has expanded over the last few years that is very possible.

I'm going with new engine, byro is way out of date now it would be a really poor move for them to release the TES with the same crappy engine.

Time will tell i suppose, just hope the game is great.

Looks like I'm going to have to buy a decent gaming pc ready for this to come out. After all the time I sunk into Oblivion I can see this going the same way.

A new engine is not all about improved graphics it also about improved development environment and processes, something IDTech 5 has IMO. Considering ID has only part of the same group for a relative short time amount I don't think it be don't thing IDTech5 will be used this time round.

What's likely happened is that this "all new" engine has been worked on since Elder Scrolls IV came out as a self built engine on a large project adds 18-24 months to the length of a project. This brings the time scale up to about Fallout 3 release time so I reckon as they were finishing up the DLC for that they started full production on Elder Scrolls V with the full team behind it after the last FO3 DLC was out.

Blurry and unstable? No thanks.

Never liked the arma engine, looks aweful on seems weird atleast on my computer ^^ will have to try it one my new one whenever it arrives again.

Nope not blury or unstable.

arma 2 is perfect for oblivion if you want to create a game world 10x the size as fallout 3 with dynamic weather effects to boot and dynamic AI that does it thing on its own

I was thinking of Unreal Engine 3 (they wont of course) but it's never reached it's potential after the letdown of UT3. It runs excellent, but not sure how it would cope in large environments, its suited to deathmatch sized levels if you know what I mean.

Its really sharp detailed, not as heavy on the system as Cry Engine 2. It's a pity all the games that use this engine employ artists with no sense of colour!
