The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

ummm so i'm a bit daunted by the size of this thread and the amount of options.

Bought Skyrim recently via Steam sale. Never played it, RPG games are not my norm so what would simple mods would you recommend for someone new to the game?

I'd always recommend 5) SkyUI + Better Sorting + Categorized Favorites Menu - interface replacement for any new player!

One you get to grips of the game, you can then move onto the graphical updates :) ( Just not the DLC high res )

I'm running my game with mods like Smim, Better Dynamic Snow, Distant Decal Fix, Vandr Presents - HD Imperial Tower, Ruins Clutter Improved and
Skyrim HD - 2K Textures.
Will test now :)

Have included the latest Vivid Landscapes - All in One 1024, though you can use the higher 2048 if you so wish :)

UV improved, parallax enhanced meshes.

Installed 40 mods and started playing Skyrim for the 1st time! Thanks for the links in OP. I'm just wondering, now that I need to run skse_loader instead of the Skyrim launcher, what's the best way to run it through steam? Do I have to add it as a non-steam game or?

Most likely, though I don't use steam for Skyrim i'm afraid

Is anyone using STEP and Climates of Tamriel and Whiterun Trees? CoT sounds like it could clash with Wet and Cold but they don't mention each other in the descriptions.

I don't use STEP I'm afraid, that's the problem with Climates of Tamriel it tends to clash with many different mods. I used to use it myself until I went with RCRN.

It also clashed with Realistic Lighting, such a pain in the ***

Haha, you sod.

Is the main topic up to date though? Not able to do proper research as I'm at work and I'm running out of tea...

Yep, updated as of Jan 2014

I'll update as much as I can, usually people give me a shout anyway of a mod they've enjoyed. As you can see though some of the mods had to be deleted as they caused issues down the line or clash too much with any better mods that've been released :)

By the way I'd highly recommend Skyrim HD and not installing the beth high res texture dlc. Just follow the guide mod by mod, if the mod doesn't suit you, skip to the next one
