The end of a gaming era....

Haha, don't let her see my post then :p

We've got a 4 month old daughter! Totally agree with your sentiment - she's a blast!

I try and sneak a couple of games in when my Wife tries to put her down though, however my wife would rather i tidied up or did something more productive. After 12 hours a day at work, i just want to zone out for a while - is that a bad thing?

I go through phases. Most of the time I just use my phone for internet relates activities. If I need more than that it's a toss up between my PC and my Macbook Air.

When we were selling our old house I put the PC into mothballs and just had the MBA. It was more than capable and I even managed some super lightweight gaming on it!

What Wolfenstein? As if that's still going! I used to play that game religiously - bloody loved the beach MP map!!!

Can't get over why people don't still play this game, surely best team based and skill based game there is, or am I just totally out of touch. Graphics and physics dated but gameplay takes real skill. Still a couple of decent servers running.

Mine has turned into a glorified music system with the occasional game of Path of Exile. No PC games I want to play unless a new Diablo game came out or a decent RPG.

This is what genuinely worries me about having children, not just spare time for gaming but spare time for any pastimes.

Dont worry too much! I have a 3 year old and manage between 3 - 6 hours per week.

My wife is pregnant with our second...currently managing around 10+ hours per week due to the earlier bed times :D

Full size gaming PC for me, an expensive inferior gaming PC with very limited upgrade potential is just no substitute.

I don't get to game much since I got married and became a dad but I wouldn't give up my Octo cored cpu and 1080ti cooled by water pumped through two large 360 rads with nine 120mm fans cooling the whole affair for any current laptop or console .... Despite what @glaucous thinks you cant anywhere get close to that power in the form factor of a laptop be it a 'gaming' one or not. Sure not all games need masses of power but when I do get the time to have a play I want to have the power on hand to enjoy all recent titles.

Also why anyone would want to swap out a decent, large desktop monitor for a pokey laptop one is also beyond me.

Probably about 70‰of my Internet browsing is now done on the phone though!

Phones are still a pain in the ass for Internet stuff even 4.5 inch screens. The screens are still too small and I despise most mobile sites.

Sooner or later you will all become not only old but wise.

You will no longer be able to see anything on a 4" screen 1ft away from your face.

Then you will return to the fold

(Desktop + 30"+ monitor, high grade headphones, and all that...... :) )

i sold my custom built pc last may 2016 as I bought ASUS all in one (Zen AIO 24" screen with touchscreen) - i gave it up custom built i spend over 40 years so it time to call it day.. it was good old pc but time to change for the future as Im happy with my Asus all in one cos it easy to move about... Im too tired to rebuilt the pc again it feel like start again then build up slowly.. so ive enough and relax with my jumbo swivel sofa and enjoy my own AIO..

I'm done with gaming to be honest, all I used to play out of my 200 games on steam were black ops custom zombies and ballons tower defence.
Gaming is best (for me) when you play something for 10 hours, then it's over, and you can move on.

No interest in multiplayer-focused games that never end.

Nope, if I'm playing a game today I want a good, solid story, a great soundtrack, and decent gameplay. I want a great story that sucks me in, makes me feel some emotion, and then lets me go after a few hours, feeling satisfied.

Never-ending games (like MMOs) were fine in my youth. But these days they have absolutely zero appeal. Today gaming for me is an alternative to a book or a film, but I want the same kind of experience you'd get with those (+gameplay).

I'm yet to come across a game with a decent story. They are all rubbish. If I want story I watch a film.

Gameplay and fun is what I look for in games. If its a game that does not end its not a problem as I can regulate how much and when I play it.

my issue isn't that I dislike MMOs i dislike mmos that have been produced.
I want elite dangerous mixed into the x3 universe, now that is a game ive been dreaming about for years. without the factories and stuff i cant get into elite it also makes it to empty.

yeah never really understood the story part of why people like gaming, or perhaps I just don't like those sorts of games, all though I do play to a scenario in quite a few games.

I ditched my gaming pc a couple of months ago; I had been considering it for a while mainly due to our little girl (she's 2 in January) taking up most of my spare time. I work day shift and my wife works back/twilight shifts.

My interest and enthusiasm for pc gaming has been declining for a while, I began to enjoy just kicking back on the living room couch and playing something on my PS4 PRO rather than sitting at a desk with mouse and keyboard. I hung onto the pc for so long as most of my mates played online shooters (PUBG, rainbow siege, etc) but to be honest first person shooters were never really my favourite types of games. I'm enjoying the more relaxed third person / rpg gaming on the ps4 pro now, I also have the new Xbox on pre-order for this week.

I had quite a high end pc, 7700k gtx 1080ti SSD's Watercooling acer x34a etc etc so I made a decent bit of cash by splitting a selling mostly via MM. I invested this and a little bit more into a 65" Sony XE93 tv, Sonos playbar (all properly wall mounted) and small corner sofa, transforming my pc desk man cave into a more family friendly tv entertainment room. The wife and I can enjoy some big screen movie nights or I can chill out with the console for a little gaming session every now and then.

The only game I genuinely miss playing is Elite Dangerous, I had a very nice hotas setup with rudder pedals and roccat power grid on my tablet, tried ED on the ps4 but it just doesn't cut it. Perhaps once my little girl is a bit older, or my wife's working pattern changes I'll look into pc gaming again. I think the only game that would pull my back to pc gaming would be Star Citizen, but it's anyone's guess when that will be out.

Bought a 4k tv last year and got a ps4 pro to go with it. I have just given up having it as my main gaming system. Upgraded to a 1070 from a 670 and the ps4 will just be used for fifa/uncharted now. I think once you have experienced pc , consoles will never cut it for serious gaming.
