The end of a gaming era....

haven't had a desktop in 8 years. Got an AW17 R4 that games beautiful on maximum settings and no fan noise plus i get to sit on the couch and watch TV in the background while doing so. Don't think I could ever go back to a desktop PC now.

I'm yet to come across a game with a decent story. They are all rubbish. If I want story I watch a film.
Stop playing CoD then :p

Plenty of games with great stories. Way too many to list.

Sure the quantity of dialog/exposition is going to be less than a film or a book, due to the medium being entirely different in nature.

And of course nobody needs reminding that the majority of films are either plain awful, or have silly/implausible/non-existent plots. Entire genres of films have no need of a plot whatsoever, and ditch it entirely in favour of action scenes. Yes there are games like this too.

But just as their exists the occasional diamond of a film with a fantastic plot, so there are example of games with fantastic plots.

e: Two games I completed recently with good stories: Soma; Fran Bow. And that's just two off the top of my head from the last few months.

I've not seen a film in ages lately. Well maybe the latest Underworld but it was a bit, meh. Films don't seem to be as good anymore? Creating for the sake of creating rather than effort into story.

Would take too much of a financial hit if I had to sell my gaming PC now. Besides, I still use it on occasion and then there’s the huge backlog of Steam games to get through.

But these days, oh so rare that I play. This damn Adult thing keeps me way too busy.

I keep (and love) my PC because it allows me to do everything from one place. I like sitting at a desk in front of my 40" 4k screen and having 4 windows with Photoshop, chrome, media player classic, and file explorer, all in 1080p windows and all visible simultaneously.

It's also my hifi so I listen to FLACs and the radio on it, Skype, and of course game with a mouse and keyboard.

Productivity and flexibility can't be beaten, not to mention gaming performance and the fact that it's my retreat from insanity at the end of a day's working or listening to the kids screaming.

Maybe there's a console solution that will allow all of that in my sitting room, but I have a media pc in there too and it's better for gaming than a console, so...

My desktop pc is going nowhere.

I still have my gaming pc and still building them after nearly 30 years. I do feel pretty out of tough with builds these days though, only doing a fresh build every 5-6 years. I dont really add to existing builds. I do find troubleshooting more tiresome than i used to. Have had to warranty my Corsair PSU after only 1 years use and my 780Ti after 2 years (with it failing again just 2 months out of warranty).
Not sure if im quite ready for an off the shelf or all in one solution yet and definitely not that keen on going down the console route. Gaming is keeping my interest enough to warrant the time and effort (and money) to keep my interest. My gaming itself is pretty much limited to War Thunder and PUBG.

I'd really struggle to go laptop only, I did it for a year or so, but development work is just too much of a chore for me with a laptop alone, fine for a bit of light gaming though, still use the one for browsing the web or writing a document while on the sofa, but a proper full fat PC is hard to beat for sheer flexibility

I also think that workstation / desktop replacement laptops are quite poor value E.G I have a HP Z book I use at work, awesome spec for a laptop (Xeon, with Nvidia quadro, SSD and 32gb of RAM) but for what it cost you could by 2 desktop pcs that were more powerful, maybe 3!

Its been a few weeks now and haven't touched a game since (steam isn't even installed on the laptop) the desktop went, struggling to get to groups with the keypad on the laptop but I've got a Logitech bundle (keyboard and mouse) and plug the laptop into the 50" 4k TV and use it like that, its getting better and I pick up the laptop a bit more but to start with I didn't use it for 4 to 5 days.
