The England Cricket Thread

Glad to see I am quite consistent with predictions - wrong most of the time. Hopefully England will actually do some soul searching and look to blood other players.

Anyone getting excited for the ashes yet?

Good few quizzes on BBC Sport

Got 8/9 on this one

This one quite tough, think I got into the high 20s before giving up

Good news for England, Wood looks like he'll be fit for the first test and Hazelwood is out for the Aussies. A bit worried by Roots lack of runs in the warm up though, hopefully that's just a blip because we need him to be in top form for us to have any chance of winning

Yes without Cummins and Hazlewood it helps us. But with Starc, Boland and Lyon it’s still a formidable attack.

Considering Australian wickets have gotten even harder to bat on in the last 10 years. I think 100s are going to be a real rarity this series, for the Australians too. I think the players who will go for ‘proper innings’ will struggle the most. Because the way the pitches have been there’s just a ball with your name on it. The likes of Head and Brook who can go out there against the play and smack quick fire runs. They’re gonna be the ones to get 100s and win the games.

Root is class of course but I think it’s never been harder to get runs in Australia so I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t get one. To me it takes nothing away from his greatness, us winning the ashes is more important than Root getting a 100.

Couple of good bits of news for a change, although as above, a bit concerned about our form going into it..

Getting quite excited now, as I'm flying out to Perth for the first test.. so should see the first ball :)

Then flying on to a few places in Oz, before ending up in Brisbane for the second test.. unfortunately then flying home.. but heyho.. a couple of ashes tests is better than none..

Definitely a life goal for me to watch an ashes down under. Very jealous, I hope you have a great time and get to see some legendary moments for England.

Fingers crossed, although I keep telling myself we'll collapse as a coping mechanism :) then if we do well i'll be pleased.. and if we do collapse I won't be too dissapointed and i'll also be in Australia :)

Starc and Lyon are world class and very dangerous but for the first test at least Lyon will be less of a threat due to the hardness of the pitch which puts a lot of Starc to take wickets as I really don't see Boland as that big of a threat. The guy is 36, started his test career late, not very experienced and bowls at fast/medium pace, I see more of a container to hold the runs down rather then an outright wicket taker/strike bowler.

Well so far the Aussies aren't fairing much better so out batters at least have that as an excuse to fall back on. 32 is overs though...... that's bearly one session

is this going to last past day 2, let alone day 3.... as much as that first innings was a low score, can only be judged by the time both have been to bat, and it doesn't look so shabby now, pitch looks to be creating lots of opportunities. All pointing now towards a good competitive Ashes series!
