The 'Everything Adobe Lightroom' Thread

That sorts that issue out then, I knew previous versions had upgraded my catalog when I updated :p

I'll await the final, no rush to try the beta. Production work and all that.

I've been following this blog for a while, just for inspiration. I've not bought any of their tutorials, I haven't felt the need to. I don't know why, but I've never tried to process their images before. Today I wanted to see how easy it was to get somewhere close to their end product without any help...

And my attempt...

I guess this is a good way to get to learn Lightroom and entertain myself at the same time. The more experienced of you guys will probably find this boring. I thought it was a good way to pick up the basics though.

Can someone try exporting a load of images from LR?

Thing that annoys me so much is that my 6 cores are barely utilized past 50%, which is incredibly annoying.

Wish they'd give us the option to hammer my machine :/

When you upgrade from 3 to 4 does it alter any of your presets or editing you have already done to newer settings? I'd rather it didn't. I have 4 sat here and as I'm happy with 3 I've held off after reports of slower speed?

Everything's held on the previous version. All older processed images are flagged as being edited on an older version - you can leave them as they are, auto update or just manually process from where they are.

No slower speed here with 4.4 - far from it.

Yeah you can, I thought this earlier but click Buy and then change Upgrade to Full.

£102.57 :)

I am seriously tempted to pick this up so I can get into image editing/improving. I really need to organise my photos in a better way though.

Thy seem to be rushing the LR releases. I remembered I eventually stumped up to buy LR 2 and they suddenly released 3 a few month later. The wife purchased LR3 as it is cheap with the education discount (she is a Prof) then a few months later 4 was released.

I was just thinking last 4 to buy LR4 now 5 is released. Is this their new strategy, set low prices but EoL each version every yea making a pseudo subscription?

Saying that Adobe slowly add sufficient features to make PS redundant to me. Don't think I will do the whole Creative cloud malarkey, LR5 + Gimp will suit me, I keep pping to a minimum anyway,

I think I will stick with 4 for now, this offers me nothing much of interest looking at the new features. I agree though I will use lr and elements 11 and I have no need for a full Cs. I lose very little for photography that way that Cs would offer.

Might b IO issues like disk writing speeds, you got an SSD?
Never looked into LR performance so no idea what I am talking about but I can imagine a 6 core CPU being slowed simply from disk read and writ speeds. Reading and Writing a few gigs of photos to disk will take time

Well, it has been a year, more than a year.

I ordered LR4 on March 6th 2012 (found the invoice) so it's not a few months, it's just you waited when the product is passed mid cycle before purchasing that's all.

Still, seems to be a new version once a year when they add only a few features, shouldn't they just call this 4.3 or some such.
