The 'Everything Adobe Lightroom' Thread

Quick question guys..

So I have just got lightroom 5, installed on a brand new laptop.

On my old pc, I have an install of lightroom 4.

How do i go about moving my old library to my new laptop and keeping all my settings and adjustments?

Thanks

mrk "do you have LR5 now or you still running the beta"?

I have the full final, only installed the beta to test catalogs convert.

Back up catalogue (edit > catalog settings) and restore on new machine.

Back up catalogue (edit > catalog settings) and restore on new machine.

Ok just backing up now... presumably this creates a file that i put on the new machine and the restore it in lightroom?

How does the student discount thing actually work as I dont see any option as to where you can enter a universities information into it at checkout?

My GF is a teacher.

I selected the student/teacher version, purchased it, and then you have to upload a picture of a valid piece of ID. I just used the front of her payslip which had her name and school address. They took about 24 hours before they authorised it and sent me the serial number.

edit: well restoring the old catalogue back up was remarkably simple! As far as I can tell everything is now in the new version. Very painless!

My daughter starts school this year, but I think that's stretching it a bit! Although she does use Lightroom for browsing photos... Ultimately I'd be using it, so I'm not a student or teacher so the license wouldn't count, I might as well pirate it. I won't though, the upgrade is only £58 so not too bad. The whole Creative Cloud access for £16 a month as Student\Teacher looks a great deal though.

Yeah I just got the teacher discount, a nice incentive, finally. Although Adobe were crap for me, took 3 days and 5 phone calls to get them to sort it out. Oh, and had to upload the proof 3 times.

But apart from that, very happy with LR5

Sure - if you can get the discount why not use it.

Cheers! Makes sense! Wish I had thought about it before getting LR4, will try for the teacher discount on upgrading to LR5

£16! Nice! Think the standard sub is £27 I've always wanted to give PS a real go!

Excellent, thanks for that. I'll take a photo of my student ID and use that.
