The 'Everything Adobe Lightroom' Thread

From what I can gather many of you guys use Lightroom for everything. What do people think of Lightroom ability to sharpen? Do any of you dip into Photoshop for 'output sharpening'?

I don't find the output for web particularly good in LR, the resize doesn't do a lot of good for your image no matter how sharp it is to start off with. I prefer to resize and sharpen if needed in PS.

I stick to PS for 'proper' sharpening.

LR is the same as sharpening in Camera Raw - great for initial raw file sharpening (especially when using the ATL key on the marsk to give you a type of selective sharpening as mentioned above) but I find PS better for final/output sharpening.

I do like using clarity (depending on the image of course!) in LR which has an effect like sharpening and isnt in PS - can really bring out the detail.

There seems to be so many keyboard shortcuts to Lightroom, that you could almost make a Degree in it. Am I just lazy, or does anyone else just mainly use the graphical UI ?

I use many KB shortcuts, the onesI use religiously though are CTR+[ & CTR+] for rotate, CTRL+' for Creating a virtual Copy, CTRL+n to create a snapshot of the current edit.

I am now redoing my digital negative structure (which happens to be my entire library)
I have had it now like this
HDD
Air
Creative
Music
Portraits
Landscapes
Weddings
Wildlife
etc
etc

Now doing so by date

HDD
2005
-Air
----Red Arrows
-Creative
----Smoke
-Music
-Portraits
-Landscapes
----Cornwall
-Weddings
----Sarah + Matthew
-Wildlife
-etc
-etc
2006
-Air
----Red Arrows
----Cosford
-Creative
----Light painting
-Music
----Rich Wilson
----MUSE
-Portraits
----Hannah Jackson
----Self Portraits
-Landscapes
----Peak District
----Lake District
-Weddings
----Katie + Mark
-Wildlife
----Bobby
-etc
-etc

I think by doing this I am going to be able to breeze through my database more efficiently finding things I am looking for without being caught up in the processing of caching loads of data.

Half way through doing it so far and I must say it feels good to navigate so just a + for this system.
I know most probably do sort by year anyway.

Time consuming but I think it's worth it :)

I personally keep the hd structure just in date order:

Pics
>2003
>2003-01-01
...
>2004
...

But then use Lightroom catalogues to group the photos eg

Airshows
>Biggin Hill
>Farnborough
Holidays
>2008
>Florida
>France

That way I can quickly find all the photos I'm after - especially with some keywording you can find what your after very quickly.

Bloody time consuming doing it initially though!!!!

Anyone using "collections" to organise their best photos into more defined genres ?
I still try and keep my HD folder structure organised too ( by date taken, with a subfolder using a keyword to describe the content ).
