The Experience machine...

if i didnt know that i was in a machine, it would be indistinguishable from real life, so without a doubt yes.

but i want things in the machine to act out as in rl, as in i dont want any science breakthroughs out of the machine that arnt in the machine world, if you know what i mean, i wouldnt want to miss out on anything.

this reminds me a bit of those chambers in one of the vaults in fallout 3, people living in them kept alive by these pods yet living out normal lives in their heads! i wonder if thats where u got this crazy idea from lol!:p

A quick question about the machine: is this a one-shot deal? Or can you alter the plan as you go on? Like, if I go in just hoping for a nice romp with Dr Connie Beauchamp from Holby, and that finally happens, can I then suggest more fun situations I'd like to be in?

Ok, the idea is this..

You program in the machine your perfect lifestyle. You can be whoever you want to be, have the best traits and attributes, be a millionaire, whatever.. When you step into the machine you won't be able to understand that its just in your head. Once your in theres no turning back and you will die in the machine when you get old..

Now would you get in?

Sounds like a rip of BTL in the Red Dwarf book.

most definitely, its your imagination

Ok, so I'm going to live the rest of my life in a Holodeck, having access to say "computer, generate this program..." and it happens. Hmm...

Now, in the holodeck they have safety protocols in place so the visitor can never be hurt or killed. Does this machine provide the same thing? If so, and there was ultimately no risk at all, then it could become quite boring. If not then I would do it in a minute. :)

but they wouldnt be real, the real family would see you wasting away in this machine and the love wouldnt be real.. lol..

I think you're completely missing the point.
You wouldn't know it isn't real, it would be a like for like reality in your perfect image, love is just the invention of man, giving a number of emotions a name.
If you feel that in the fake world, it is exactly as real as it is in the real world.

I wouldn't, not unless I lost my brother/father and the few friends I have.
But I'm lucky that I have these people because the rest of my life is a complete mess!

Question, If this means I am 30, 40+ could I image myself to be younger again, of course dying when my real body decides to give up?

Sounds like a rip of BTL in the Red Dwarf book.
Rip off? I mean can't we all say we've dreamt/imagined things like this in the past? I know I have, way before the matrix or red-dwarf.

I'd have been under 6 months old when the red dwarf books came out :o

So no :p

True.

But this doesn't matter always , you may have been that young when it came out but I never saw it until I was, at a complete guess 10+?
Even then, some people have never seen it! :)

But I can surely say I have an overactive imagination and I've though of things like this a lot.
