The F1 2014 season

At this rate Sutil will keep the record for most races without a podium finish in F1 (109 so far). Not sure why he's "better than half the grid", and even then that's no achievement given the amount of mediocre pay drivers/journeymen filling out the field.

You're asking why he's better than half of the 22 drivers just because he can't put it in the top 3? Consistency is a virtue as well, you know - ask Kimi "WDC" Raikkonen. (He'll tell you to **** off, but that's because it's Kimi.)

What use is consistency if you average 11th or 12th? That isn't getting your team a better WCC position. Di Resta had 5 consecutive DNFs and still beat him in points for the 2013 season. Back in 2009, Fisichella was largely superior. Then there was that off-track incident in the nightclub...

There are other drivers more deserving of a place at Sauber. James Calado and Jules Bianchi for instance.

Ecclestone has stood down from FOC's board of directors to face the bribery charges in Germany as it's going to court. He will still be running it day-to-day, but no board duties.

Beginning of the end for his tenure?

We can only hope so (Assuming that whoever in line to take over from Ecclestone actually cares for the sport and not just their bank balance of course)

@GrandPrixDiary -
Bernie plans a route for the Grand Prix of London, ensuring that if the worst happens, he'll still get to see it.

Bernie's almost out... :D

But more importantly, (for me anyway) Ron's almost back... :D

Anyone want to guess who the previous CEO was? It was a certain Mr Whitmarsh. Most interesting bit of the release for me is "beginning by improving our on-track and off-track performance." Seems like he's been brought in to give the race team a kick up the exhaust. Good. McLaren threw away the 2012 titles, then lost Hamilton to their most immediate rival and produced a complete dog of a 2013 car.

Here's hoping...

It was under Dennis's direction that McLaren designed their 2009 car, is arguably the guy who led it into what it is now, lost Raikkonen, hadn't won a constructors title for what is now 15 years... they would have won it in 2007 had he not utterly screwed over his own team and twisted them against each other.

The bloke can operate a good constructor ("team" isn't the right word given McLaren's history under him), but he's equally capable of ballsing it right up.

I wouldnt be so sure. Standards have slipped. He said so himself tonight "I will make this a fun place to work, I will add family days etc. But things need to change, standards have slipped. When we opened this building we had a code, that doesnt exist any more"

Some people are going to get a rocket, and rightly so, some of the lax people there beggar belief.

The problem with McLaren for me is they are about as exciting as tax disc collector convention. Their public image is dull as dishwater, even the tooned series (which is good) doesn't make them any more appealing.

I've never seen DiCe but I wouldn't be surprised if the McLaren factory was fully of Spitting Image John Mayor types ;-)

On on more serious note. Despite being his boyhood favourite team, Alonso will never consider going back there is there is a risk Dennis will appoint himself team principle.

You work at MTC? What do you do there out of interest?
