I can't even begin to fathom why he's gotten new contracts beyond the first one, which itself was surprising in the first place. Maybe the better question is, where and when did he witness Mourinho murdering someone in their Porto days, such that Mourinho bought him at Chelsea and gave him a 20 year long contract.

He's a player that must make Bogarde seem like good value in comparison now.
