He didn't leave any ground completely:

This is NOT a red card. Even the referee was ready to give a yellow, but what the hell happened in that second before moving the yellow back to his pocket?!?

This match was ridiculous. There is high probability that it was fixed.

Rewind that still half a second. Hes off the ground. Your still shows his foot above the ball.

How is that not a red?

Edit

Dont care what card was out first and that fixed shout is nonsense.

It wasn't a red. It was a yellow with last warning for a red if anything even small comes next. Yes, he was in the air before but at the moment of the contact, he was on the ground.
And the other player was perfectly fit afterwards.

So he was off the ground with zero control? Its a red card all day.

If the player was injured or not isnt relevant.

The thing is was it intentional, if he lost control due to losing consciousness, would it be again a red card? Maybe to a dead person?! Let's hope God never gives that, but just an example!

Studs up and over the top of the ball is red all day long.
The problem with this is that it also applies to the Wigan player on Aguero in the first half and the challenge on Danilo in the second half. Simply having your studs showing and being high isn't a red card, it's whether they've used excessive force and endangered the opponent. I think the Delph challenge probably was a red but it's not as clear as day or anything like the worst red's we see - his body weight is grounded so there's not massive force going into the challenge.

such a joke our FA are.

The various football bodies in this country seem to be a big joke of late - puts me right off following the game. Couple of league 1 and 2 teams I sort of follow had players handed red cards and appealed and had the match ban extended when there is tons of video evidence in mitigation which I can only assume was not reviewed whatsoever for whatever reason. They and the attitude of some referees are undermining the game as much as the players doing things that have earned the red card, etc.

Hopefully the FA come down on them for the pitch invasion and make them play some games behind closed doors, no supporter should ever get on the pitch.

Just watching the stats and how on earth did City have 14 shots on target?!?! Thought it was about 3 as I don't remember too many.

Watched it 3 or 4 times and each time I change my mind, to be honest I don't mind him giving red there but he clearly gets the yellow out and starts writing on the card, Wigan surround him and all of a sudden it's changed to red.

I think though City are stronger without Delph on the field as I'm not sure what he brings to the table.

Wigan must be punished somehow - either disqualification from the tournament or a decision to replay the game again.
I wonder what Pep said afterwards. Did he say City will send complaints and some serious actions in their protection?

People, probably City fans way over reacting here. Yes a pitch invasion is regrettable, but suggesting Wigan be disqualified or the match be replayed is utterly ridiculous. Just desperately trying to find a way to get City through to keep the quadruple dream alive. Its not worth it now anyway. It would be too tarnished.

I'm not a City fan, far from it but I think Wigan should be punished and made to play games behind closed doors as that not only hits Wigan in the pocket but also punishes fans (I know not every fan ran onto the pitch but certainly over half of them did) as a fine would only hit the club and not make fans think about their actions.

And yes a replay is the most ridiculous suggestion ever, the match was over and City had lost so the invasion had no bearing on the outcome and expulsion is a bit too OTT for 1 offence, although if it happens a 2nd time I would favour that action, got to be hard otherwise clubs keep paying the fines and fans never learn.

I could see how the ref could give yellow or red there, strange how he got the yellow out but couple of things:

Pep has moaned enough in various press conferences about cracking down on tackles on his players so what does he need expect?

How often do City players flock round the ref and get him to change his mind, again what goes around comes around.

This is my main gripe with football at the moment, players go down like a sack of spurs rolling round the pitch one minute then get up and clatter someone the next. They kick the ball out and claim the throw knowing full well they touched it last. Football players/managers and fans have a very one sided blinkered view.....

City fans trashed the away end ripping up seats and what not, they aren't innocent in all this.

Pre season the FA should come out and just set some punishments for such a thing and have done.
