Santos got a right mauling from the arsenal fans today(and us). Most of the people round me were just laughing at him most of the time. And the arsenal fans cheered loudest of all when they announced he was being subbed!....most people moan when you need a goal and swap fullback for fullback, but he seriously needed to come off!...as I said earlier, he overtakes obertan as worst player I have seen this season.

Some arsenal fans in the pub after the game...I honestly think they would have killed him if they had the chance

Listening to 5Live earlier and the commentator doing the Arsenal game said he was just Brazilian by name and had absolutely nothing about him once again. :D

Finally seen the Silva chance that hit the post, PICK THAT ONE OUT! then Silva have a shave...

As a Saints fan, iv seen some dreadful left backs (all stare at danny fox) but good god Santos is bad! He's just played so far out of position is embarrassing, probably a decent left winger but seems to have been in teams where they have been in abundance and forced into LB by apparently being able to tackle...

I want to hear DM's view because it'll be a chuckle, but in general he's a TERRIBLE LB just like Stoke are dirty team.

He's a left back and left winger, he played lb for his previous club(initially more left wing) and has played lb for Brazil...with 48 other defenders injured... though Arsenal fans when we signed him ignored that little gem and pretended like they were getting a genuine Brazil first team left back, I seem to remember mentioning it back then ;) .

He's rubbish at left wing, he's rubbish at left back, he should be in jail both for the spending/driving irratically, police tried to pull him over so he sped up and went was it 130mph in rush hour traffic on the motorway and stopped at the training ground, also for impersonating a footballer.

I don't much care now, he was rubbish before we bought him, a hilariously awful buy, a panic buy from Wenger, and is only a bit worse defensively than Gibbs... that is the troubling part really, giving Gibbs who is only a bit better, a new contract.

Ultimately there is basically one reason people end up around their 30's in the Turkish league, promise has turned into nothing, lazy, money grabbing players end up there and are 99/100 times not worth buying for a "proper" team, yet Wenger decided to ignore the fact that league is for washed up players who can't make it anywhere else and paid what, 150 times what he's worth, and we've apparently turned down 2.5mil for him early in the transfer window as being not enough....... what a **** Wenger is.

But Santos isn't first team, even the delusional Wenger realises he's not first team, the issue I had today was with everyone who was woeful that Wenger still thinks can make the difference, Diaby, Ramsey, Mert.... jesus, Mert is the least mobile defender around, it can work if you're Terry and can read the game brilliantly and react early... Mert does neither of those things, we bought in the tallest defender available, that no one else wanted(like most of the players we've bought in the past 3 years), and he's terrible in the air, terrible at set pieces.

Wenger and our team of scouts need firing, and our medical staff, and the board, and half the team.

MU-Fulham was the most boring game with 5 goals I can ever remember.

As for Santos he shouldn't be getting games at LB, when Gibbs isn't available I'd rather play Vermaelen at LB and Kos/Mert at CB, when one of those is also missing I'd rather try Miquel, who again is arguably better at CB. At his age I can't see him ever learning the positional sense required, it was apparent to me last season that he isn't up to the task and I haven't seen anything this season that would change that opinion, he should be in jail anyway.

Don't forget, Wenger is great with youth players, brilliant record of giving them real chances, no really... there are at least 2 youth left backs, one who had one chance looked decent and went missing again. Verm, no, as with Wilshire its games like this we need to give key players a rest. Wenger is the single worst manager for rotation/resting players, no other manager practices the fantastic system that is "work them till they're injured" like Wenger does.

The daft thing is, Jenks is better than Sagna anyway, so in reality Jenks should be playing more often, which means Sagna should be playing less and both should be fairly well rested. As usual though Sagna came back from injury, Jenks got shafted and he's now working Sagna's weak leg till it gets rebroken again. Anyway if both players were pretty well rested it would be easy to play either at left back in a game like this... or in the league, give Gibbs a rest as well, fullback is fullback.... Gibbs is completely rubbish defensively anyway.

I forget the kids name but one of our younger players played left back in another cup game and looked, not bad, better than Santos by a mile, already that guy should be getting cup games and be first choice backup ahead of Santos.

Jernade Meade is probably who you are talking about, he looks decent but is very small (smaller even than Arshavin), I'd still pick him over Santos though.

No Nani should not be playing, until he shows he really wants to play for the club for a full 90 minutes (or until he tires).

His technical ability is not the only thing that matters here, with only a year or so left on his current contract (and only approx 6 months before he can start talking to other clubs) it would br daft to make him an automatic starter

His form is also still highly questionable, even despite the few minutes here and there where he comes alive (and remember I think only 20% of his shots vs Fulham were on target, 1 out of 5).

While we cant know for sure what wages any players relative to Nani are on, so saying he is/ isnt worth x amount makes no difference - but imo something along the lines of a 20% increase for the 1st year of the next contract on the promise of that rising another 20-30% for the next 2-3 years as long as his effort / form improve might be a good compromise

Stats stats stats.

The most important stat in complaining about Nanis shot accuracy against say, Valencia, is that Nani HAS shots to generate stats from, as well as creating chances and getting assists and defending to an acceptable level.

Valencias shots stats for the season so far are something like shots 0, on target 0, chance conversion 0.

Those smashing santos, don't forget Bale was the worst player in the league until he was moved away from left back.

One stop away from Griffin Park. Biggest opposition since Liverpool in the late 80's. You Reds!?!

I'm realy excited to watch tbh, makes a change with the dread that I'm faced with every Arsenal game, even a loss, its still a huge game for Brentford and everyone expects them to lose so really they can't lose, they can't let anyone down but could pull off a miracle. Its a shame its not at Chelsea, more money I would imagine and Chelsea's home form is dreadful :p

How many Brentford ball boys are going to throw themselves on the ball for a laugh today :p

Those smashing santos, don't forget Bale was the worst player in the league until he was moved away from left back.

Bale was young when he joined Spurs, not, god knows, 28-29, he joined on lowish wages, not 60k a week, Santos was moved back from left wing to left back, largely because he was crap at left wing and they I can only assume thought he might be better at left back... the were wrong.

Also didn't someone potentially disprove the Bale left back thing, as in, Spurs couldn't win anything when he played(but not entirely because of him) but he played left wing(supposedly) in a bunch of those games.

either way, Santos has played left wing for us, he played left wing for us in preseason(and some central midfield, no idea) and some left wing last year.

His problem going forward is generally his lack of footballing ability and brain, his problem defending is generally his lack of footballing ability and brain.... I don't think changing his position is going to help, because he's a crap footballer.

the whole, almost getting a jail term for stupidity trying to run away from the police, and the fact that he put on quite a bit of weight over the summer(have to say with poor stream and shutting my eyes whenever he had the ball I couldn't tell if he was still fat?), I'd say he's just completely unprofessional.

Chelsea:

Turnbull; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry(c), Cole; Ramires, Lampard; Marin, Oscar, Bertrand; Torres.

Subs: Hilario, Ferreira, Azpilicueta, Mata, Benayoun, Ba, Ake

Brentford:

Moore; Hodson, Dean, Craig, Logan; Douglas, Diagouraga; Donaldson, Forshaw, Forrester; Trotta.

Subs: Lee, Barron, Reeves, Adeyemi, Dallas, Saunders, Hayes.

Even if Santos were to be good in another position (I remain unconvinced) the point is he was brought in largely as a replacement for Clichy i.e. to as a LB and he isn't good enough. Plus Bale is a better LB than him anyway and there was at least a chance that Bale could improve with age rather than Santos who in his late 20s still had/has appalling positional sense.

In preseason Santos was played further up the pitch but I was literally not able to work out 100% where he was supposed to be playing because he was running around all over the place. I think he was probably nominally at LW because nobody else was there, and he'd sometimes be there when he wasn't marauding around in some sort of random free role behind the striker, leaving Meade exposed on the flank.

I can't see him having a future at the club if moved away from LB; Podolski is better on the left than him in nearly all aspects (including tracking back) and is younger. I'd rather play Arshavin than him or even shift a central player like Cazorla out there.

I dread to think what will happen today. Byram should handle Bale but if we have Peltier vs Lennon it's just going to be lolworthy. Need all the luck in the world today.
