The FA CUP Fourth Round ** Spoilers ** [29th - 31st January 2016]

Been plenty of matches where we have played well and lost or drawn. Either from missed chances , poor defensive errors or both. Given a fit Sturridge/Ings/decent striker and a keeper not prone to errors then yes would be in a much much better position.

From threatening what? You honestly think you only need one striker, one defender and a new keeper? I know I may be looked on as biased as an Evertonian, but I think this is genuinely one of the worst Liverpool squads I've seen in my lifetime, with a load of average players in it. You have some great players like Coutinho and Sturridge, but I look at a lot of the others (like Milner and Henderson) as solid, dependable players, rather than the world class players you'd expect a team like Liverpool to have.

No team has 11 world class players, it just doesn't happen like that.

Let say Sturridge stays fit.

Ter Stegen (solid rumours)

Clyne Matip Sahko Moreno / Smith

Henderson Milner Can

Coutinho

Sturridge Firmino

Is a solid 11...couple that with a good bench and some decent squad players and we'll do alright. That's with only adding two players in Ter Stegen and Matip both of which are hevily rumoured to be coming.

You only have to look at some recent stats that say teams have had 2 shots and scored 2 goals against us to know Migs is a major liability.

I agree the squad as a whole is pretty dire, but shaw up the keeper and put someone up front who can score and as mentioned we would be a whole lot higher in the league than we are.

I think Barcelona might have something to say about that, but I take your point.

Clyne = good defender, decent enough
Sahko = not good enough
Moreno = great going forward, poor defensively
Henderson/Milner/Can = solid players, not exactly world beaters though
Coutinho = top class, best player at the club
Sturridge = great striker for the 15 games a season he's fit
Firmino = has played well in a few games, but has overall been fairly poor/average

I look at that Liverpool squad and think the majority of players are simply average, whereas a team of their stature should have a load of top class players. You only have two of them currently IMO. Outside of Coutinho and a (rarely) fit Sturridge, Liverpool don't have a single player who would get into any of the top 4/5 teams in the league. That's not good enough IMO.

One of the best in the league for that position and still finding his feet.

Sahko = not good enough

He's absolutely good enough. Regularly one of out better players and plays with a complete liability behind him. Has been poor recently but overall excellent.

Moreno = great going forward, poor defensively
Agree. Certainly an area we can improve on

Henderson/Milner/Can = solid players, not exactly world beaters though

Can is a kid, has a tonne of potential.

Henderson is struggling with an injury but when fit has been brilliant for us. We are a different team with him on the pitch. Would walk into Arsenal / Citys side...He's better then Delph, Flamini and co.

Coutinho = top class, best player at the club

Disagree, that's Sturridge :)

Sturridge = great striker for the 15 games a season he's fit

Should hopefully be fixed now...hopefully...

Firmino = has played well in a few games, but has overall been fairly poor/average

Crazy talk. It took a while for him to get his feet but when playing as a false nine he's been excellent for us and is averaging a goal a game. He's a good one this lad

Sakho's proven he's not good enough. Just like Mignolet, he has spells where he plays really well but just when you stop worrying about him, he reminds you why you were worried about him to begin with. Keepers, CB's and holding midfielders have to be consistent - ours just aren't. There are times when they can be excellent but they've always got a moment within a game or a run of fixtures where they're absolute dog****.

I actually think Mignolet is less **** than our CB's. This stat about how many goals he's conceded/saves made is a direct result of our CB's gifting clear chances to the opposition. How many times have we played relatively well in a game and been up against defences that have battled to stop us creating clear cut chances only for them to go up the other end and with their first attack, have a free attempt within 10 yards of goal?

Of course it's handy if you have a keeper that can bail your CB's out but it's highly unlikely that we'll sign a De Gea, Courtois or Neur in the summer so our CB's need addressing.

Fwiw, I'd bin Mignolet, 2 of Lovren, Sakho & Skrtel, Lucas, Allen and Lallana. I think we're going to struggle to sign a top class striker this summer so will be better off persevering with what we have (remembering Ings will be back, Origi will have a season under his belt and Sturridge can't be any more injured) and focusing our money on a keeper, 2 CB's, genuine competition for Moreno, a DM and pacey* goalscoring AM.

*We desperately need pace in our attacking mid positions. There's no point signing another Lallana, Coutinho or Firmino.

Anyone else think Bilic was maybe going a bit overboard in the post-match conference when he was going on about how this was one of the greatest nights in WHU history? I guess the emotion was still running high but I found that hard to believe, it's the 4th round against a team below them in the league playing a weakened side. I'm no expert on WHU history but surely no comparison to e.g. winning cup winners cup?
