Its not that Benteke is a bad player, his record clearly shows he can score. Its mainly that he simply does not work in the Liverpool team and style. He is the proverbial square peg in a round hole. I'd be surprised if he has a future at Liverpool, to be honest if he remained for long it would be the wrong thing for Liverpool AND for him. We need someone smaller, trickier and pacier, in the Rush, Suarez, Owen, Fowler mould.
Poor over all, Benteke very poor for us again as Tombstone said its not entirely his fault he just isnt right for us, Branagan and Smith good performances but we never lookedl ike scoring.
Played well enough to win but we were lucky not to concede a penalty and potentially lose.
Brannagan, Stewart and Allen were all good but Ibe and Benteke were poor yet again. Really hoped Ojo was given more time because he looks to have what Ibe doesn't, a brain.
And his early performances were very good, as were his early performances under Klopp.
He's a kid that's learning his game, he's going to have ups and downs. People forget Sterling's dip in level between when he burst into the team and the 2nd half of the 13/14 season where he was excellent. As late as November 2013 there was serious talk about him being loaned out because of how poor things were going and look what happened.
With the injury problems we've got we need all our players available to us and Ibe's best place to learn is with us. Maybe had we not had the injury problems and games not have been there for him or he was 18 then fair enough a loan makes sense but not now.
Klopp obviously rates him because he's giving him a lot of game time so his form can't be put down to confidence like it can with Benteke but he must've been told when there's an obvious pass on it's better to pass than to run straight in to three players and lose it.
Still, he's got the physical attributes to be an outstanding player but at the moment he looks like he's going backwards at a rate of knots.
The exact same thing was said about Sterling at the start of his second season too. After a great start under Rodgers Ibe ended last season and started this season poorly but then really looked to have kicked on when Klopp first took over, only to have hit a dip again. As I said, he's a kid that's learning his game and it's to be expected.
If we didn't have the injury problems we have and there was an obvious club he could join where he'd play regularly at a high level then ideally he would go on loan. That scenario doesn't exist though. The only clubs he'd be guaranteed to play every week would be too low down for him to continue developing.
He's got the raw materials and if, and it's only an if, he can learn to use them then he'll be a fantastic player. Or he could be another Aaron Lennon.
That looked an evil clash of heads for the Colchester players
Really think teams should be allowed to make substitutions that don't count towards the usual three when players are injured by another player and have to leave the pitch. Wouldn't allow it for all injuries but broken bones and head injuries, things that obviously can't be feigned, should be exempt.
