The FA CUP Third Round - 5/6/7 January *** Spoilers ***

Karagounis hit a complete stunner for Fulham today, can't wait to see it again when it's on TV. Shame Fulham can't seem to score at the moment, need a proper poacher type up front with Berba :(

It's the second touch that's brilliant, very few could keep the pace on the ball and bring it from slightly under his feet so it goes in line for the shot. Superb.

2 best players in the premier league for me are RVP and Suarez at the moment.

If only Suarez had his composure and finishing ability, or if we had a player who had half the finishing ability that wasn't Gerrard at the half way line

van Persie wasn't always this clinical either to be fair, but he's averaging 1 goal for every 2 shots on target in the league this year which is ridiculous. The stats show he has become increasingly clinical with time so he has clearly worked hard at his game. If Suarez develops his finishing and decision making in a similar way then he could, like van Persie at Arsenal, take Liverpool to the top 4 on his own.

In one respect i see that. But then where are atletico in the league, i bet they arent 7 points clear or whatever.

**** me is that actually a complement on what MUFC are doing atm?

There's pretty much always been someone carrying you according to some fans. Ronaldo, Rooney and now RVP.

Exactly it's swings and roundabouts, it wasn't that many months ago quite a few United supporters (myself included) was actually questioning RVP's involvement in games and that Rooney was showing to be a far better all round player, now Rooney's injured and RVP is basically being god like with his every touch of the ball. Short memories some people

Too many players in the Utd team that were being carried imo....

You must have been watching a different game to the rest of us

There were some decent individual performances today but the players were completely unsuited to the system. If we'd lined up

--------------DDG
-----Smalling-Vidic-Evans
Rafael------------------Buttner
------Cleverley---Scholes
-----------Kagawa
----Hernandez-Welbeck

It might have made sense.

As it was we had a right back that couldn't play right back, a left back that couldn't play left back. A right back that would have been a capable right winger playing on the right of centre midfield. Scholes utterly knackered after 30 minutes. Welbeck, Kagawa and Cleverley getting in each other's way and Hernandez starved of service.

Rafael, Welbeck and Hernandez played well to be fair to them but we conceded two goals purely because we had no cover in front of the defence, and given we had two right backs on the field Cole shouldn't have been given so much space and time.

As for RvP, at the start of this season he really didn't look all that and, despite scoring, was a passenger in quite a few of our games. Rooney was easily our best performer at that point. Now van Persie has upped his game and has been indispensable for weeks now. It's a fantastic situation to be in because since we lost Ronaldo and Tevez, to a lesser extent, we have been hugely reliant on Rooney. At least now we can rest him or have cover for when he is injured.

Very few of the Utd's starters earned their keep on the pitch today - good for 30ish minutes, but after that pretty average.

Clev did well, Evans and Smalling, Raf (in some respects) and Chicharito, but a number of the others looked shakey or off the pace - even the commentary picked up that quite a biit of the passing (particularly on the right) was going astray

Rooney missed two months? , or something like that - and especially since then RVP has been fantastic. Before Boxing day (I think anyway) when Rooney was injured again - he and RvP were setting each other for fun, it appeared so easy / natural for them both to be playing together. I know WR had one bad game before his most recent injury but I think thats made a lot of fans think its been a lot longer than it really has been that Robin has been doing it on his own. I have to admit Im actually quite happy Rooney is (by the sounds of it) missing the Liverpool game, he nearly always doesnt perform against them but hopefully he will start /be on the bench for the West Ham replay

Van Persie is so good.

I thought his awesome season at Arsenal could just be a flash in the pan, especially with his previous years, injury etc...

He is the real deal though. Jealous

1 goal every 2 shots :o, jesus christ

I think I saw on opta we create the third most chances/shots (can't remember which) out of the top 5 leagues in europe.

We have the second worst conversion rate out of the top 5 leagues.

He has scored a 3 in the past 3 league games at OT against us has he not? I'm sure he'll play anyways.

apart from blocking several crosses, and putting some good crosses in at the other end - no I guess he didnt.

Still a lot more than some of the others on the pitch tonight

I thought we played pretty well for the first half (just lacked that service to the striker(s) in the final third that we've lacked recently when RvP hasn't been on the pitch.

Second half though I thought we were pretty poor, Welbeck and Kagawa both fell out of the game completely, Scholes was tiring, Cleverley was having to cover a ridiculous area to compensate. The subs didn't really help either. Valencia might as well have not bothered coming on.

Thankfully one great pass from Giggs and one ridiculous finish from Van Persie and we managed to draw level.

I don't think either Jones or Smalling are right backs, we keep forcing them there but neither of them are good crossers and they're both questionable positionally out there.

Correct. Anyone who wouldn't want Rooney starting against Liverpool is barmy.

I also don't buy that he'll miss the game either ;)

Our key players this season have been Carrick, Rooney and van Persie so it's no surprise that we struggled until one of them came on.

I agree in the first half we played some really good stuff, off the top of my head the disallowed goal for Welbeck came at the end of a really sharp passing move. With the younger lads on the pitch we look a much more versatile side and it's refreshing to see us trying to pass through teams rather than playing wide all the time. It's a nice option to have and hopefully it's something we can develop with time because I'm sure it'll click eventually.
