The FA CUP Third Round ** Spoilers ** [2nd - 6th January 2015]

Sociedad have really been excellent in general in the past 4 years but at home they are incredible.

Of 3 wins this year total in the league two were against Atletico and Real, currently 1-0 up against Barca. Last year not great but beat Barca at home. Year before they beat Barca at home, drew with Real and beat Atletico away(first team to beat them in around a year. Year before that they drew with Barca. They've won a few, drawn several and even the losses say in 11/12 was 1-0 at home to Real while they lost 5-1 away. They tend to keep the scores very respectable at home even when they do lose.

Sociedad have for four years raised their game against the big three for sure, maybe more importantly is just almost every one of these games has been fantastic to watch win lose or draw. EDIT:- they've put in plenty of **** performances in the league home and away, they aren't brilliant, they just have a way of raising their game and keeping these games really good. They also(at least till Moyes) go the whole we'll score more than you tactic, they don't sit back against the big boys like so many teams do.

Told ya ;)

Messi did extremely little after he came on, Neymar got in better positions but wasn't at his best and Suarez had two chances and messed them both up, header right at the keeper and the one the keeper while doing well to get it away from Suarez's feet, Suarez should have finished it and not let the keeper have a chance.

Hard to say what Sociedad would have done without the early goal as they when they attacked didn't have the numbers or support in attack. Part of that is I suspect Vela being risked for the game as he looked to not be sprinting much throughout, particularly from the beginning of the second half while he was moving a lot he wasn't sprinting and looked like he was having trouble. He has crazy strength though, several times holding the ball against a couple of Barca players and winning throw ins, corners or just turning someone and holding possession in midfield for a while.

Martinez was fantastic, over the past 3 years he's been one of the best CB's in the league and someone Arsenal/Utd/Liverpool/anyone who needs CB's should be looking at, pretty good finisher as well having scored some cracking goals. Canales is generally very very good as well, not that consistent yet but he hasn't played enough in general with a terrible injury record from pretty much 19-22 and only one decent season under his belt in terms of games last year. In a couple of years if he goes uninjured he could be a really damn good player.

Their keeper, Rulli? Did really well. Jose Enrique will get another battering then :p

Correct about utd and martinez, exactly the sort of player they should be targeting this window.

Rulli, that idiot commentator kept ragging on him throughout because what, he didn't stop the ball from going out for a corner and then the one shot from range but it was unsighted and swerved like a mother after it cleared the final player. When he finally saw it he dived towards corner of the goal but it swerved towards the middle and he saved it with his feet. Was a bit lucky but he didn't see it till very late, he did well to keep it out. Later on he did a couple things very well. He's certainly promising but has been a pretty noticeable step down on Bravo who was absolutely excellent for them, and hilarious... he's a tad mental at times.

Still got to laugh at Sociedad 4 wins all season, 3 of them against the top 3 :p They really can be excellent but combination of not so great manager and some injury/fitness issues(maybe caused by manager as well) saw them lose their consistency, they lost the combination of Griezmann tearing up one wing with Vela on the other which was pretty devastating. I think Canales in time could work very well on opposite wing to Vela but Moyes's history with attacking players and getting the best out of them isn't great.

I did see a hint of, lack of support in numbers, down to maybe general lack of fitness or Moyes instructions for only one or two players to get a certain distance forward. Many points there would be someone down the wing who could put a ball in or at least cut it back for someone in midfield but they'd slow it down, turn back and pass backwards... it felt very conservative and Moyes-like while Sociedad would normally go and find a goal or two from those breaks.

I have a feeling without the early goal Sociedad would have played the same way and struggled to make chances, may still have kept Barca out but I suspect it was Moyes general game plan all along.

Team news released no sterling at all tonight, markovic getting a full run out fairly strong team from us as expected gerrard isn't rested so I hope he isn't as dire as his last game

Gerrard starting ? We've lost/drawn/not won by enough and it's his fault

And he was none existent last game worst than the rest that's why I'd rather him not start games, atm he was at his best this year when he came on in last 30min tonight I'd of tried can in the middle too for a change. I never have blamed gerrard for our poor season like your making out I simply stated after his abysmal last game i wouldn't of started him that and he will be tired after 30mins rodger is simply over using him.
