The Falklands thread

The Argentines themselves. The letter was posted with a '[sic]' after the use of 'Argentinian'.

Go and ask an Argentine which is correct.

Can't trust the buggers. When you ask them what the falklands is called they say Malvinas.

Really your that supprised, they ran yesterday that you could buy the same gun in the Uk, which was used in the school shooting... Only problem was you needed a firearm certificate grade 1, which is pretty near impossible to get unless your tackling large game and own an estate/ shooting range.

Not really, you can get a .22LR by just being a member of a shooting club and haveing a Sec1 FAC, the bigger more glaring mistake, was that the guy from the shooting was using a 5.56x45mm not a .22LR, so his gun was packing at least 1500 more joules of energy per bullet, could be travelleing upto about 600 m/s faster than the .22LR, and had at least a double effective range. Toilet reporting at best, don't know why they titled it as exclusive investigation, you've been able to own semi-auto rimfire .22LR guns since like forever, it's not new info, not many people own them compared to Americans anyway, so it was just a sensationalist acrticle, which gave some GCN mouthbreeder a platform to spout rubbish about firearm ownership in the UK.

Oh yes, the voice of reason from the paper that rejoiced so much in the deaths of hundreds of Argentine navy personnel. That'll surely encourage Argentina's government to calm down and behave reasonably.

They weren't the only people rejoicing. I certainly was. That vessel was not there with the well being and safety of our people in mind.

Also, if the Argentine government doesn't recognise that The Sun is a newspaper, operating in an environment of a reasonably free press and not the official Government news letter then they have plenty of problems they need to deal with before they will be able to behave reasonably.

Probably the idea of a free press is difficult for them to understand. Journalists in Argentina are thrown in jail for reporting the real inflation figures, and not the made up government ones so i understand.

If this person is genuine about wanting to claim land that apparently belonged to that area to begin with then why doesn't this Portuguese hand over all of Argentina to the Natives, that's because she isn't genuine and there is an agenda. Much like Obama pretending to cry over school shooting victims while simultaneously bombing 7 countries killing thousands and calling for a disarmament of the America people.

We all need to stop quoting Wikipedia like it's some kind of authority (on anything!)

Why? There are several research studies which show that Wikipedia is often more accurate than other "authoritative" sources. The idea that wiki is more inaccurate than other types of sources is a fallacy.

The thing about the gulf was that it was a shooting range with half the world looking to have a go. If you seen the proper application of the old and not so old stuff you would know to be worried. A lot of the modern tech is one weapon system or other away from being useless.

Nearly been in the army 20 years - Ive seen enough, not worried about old tanks.

No it certainly wasn't and it was the only ship that was worrying the Royal Navy at the time.
However it's ships comany was doing it's duty the same as ours and I would bet that they would all rather be at home with their families than going to war, the same as ours. 300 odd lives being lost and 300 odd families being deprived of fathers and sons isn't something to rejoice.

Indeed. However people need to dehumanise the enemy somehow otherwise the consequences overwhelm you. Once you begin associating the person you are tasked to defend against with yourself and begin wondering about their families and kids etc, you hesitate and you put yourself and your company at risk. I think about this a lot as I get older, questioning my actions and the morality of it all, but during my service it wasn't something I allowed myself to consider. If I did, I might not have come home.

Which 7 countries is Obama simultaneously bombing?

I "think" he was using 7 as slang for several, but off the top of my head the US "War on terror" is still ongoing in Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen and the Philippines. Add to that they have drones bombing Pakistan and are actively supporting the rebels in Syria and the US are active or at least involved in a number of countries right now (of course I'm not saying their killing children, just pointing out that they are engaged in numerous countries in some capacity).

While I can fully agree that's true regarding combat effectiveness/chance of getting home, it's also what allows some of the worst atrocities imaginable.

It's an incredibly dangerous game dehumanising others, as to empathise to is humanise.

That's true for servicemen; I'm not sure it applies to tabloid journalists. The sinking of an enemy warship is a necessary evil - but it's an event that warrants a more tactful headline than "Gotcha", as if it's all a big game.
