I was up at sparrow fart this morning, excited that I'd get a whole day to clean, polish and wax my car. So at 8am I was outside getting set up to give it a clean :D

After an night of rain I was left with a pre-soaked car:

The previous owner used Zymol wax so the water had beaded nicely :)

A quick look over the car showed it was in great shape for it's age and although it is swirled, they're certainly not the worst I've ever seen!

The interior is 90's and jap...so don't expect much ;)

Hopefully some leather feed will get the seats back in to shape, however my arse isn't as picky as my eyes so I'm not all that fussed about them.

The car was given a blast down with the pressure washer first and the water on the glass roof panels was beading nicely, so I couldn't resist a quick artsy fartsy shot ;)

Then it was on to the wheels, tyres and arches with some Megs Hot Rims

I then started to shampoo the car down panel by panel with the two bucket method when something happened that was to change my happy day in to a horrible one.....

IT BEGAN TO RAIN!

So I've now got to leave it for today because it's just not stopping :(

However, I shall resume this thread once I get a day with no rain :D

HAHAHA LOLS!

Im all fairness its a pain when it happens... invest in a gazibo or put it in the garage. Unlucky there though, Are you going to sort them paint swirls out?

Starnge how the owner used Zymol wax but has paint swirls :S if he spent tht much on the Zymol wax then he should have got the swirls sorted.

Not really, just because he used an expensive wax doesn't mean he knows about swirl marks and their removal.

To be fair, from a distance you don't even notice them, my Golf was a pig for it and I was careful with how I washed that.

He just kept it clean (i.e. free of dirt) polished it and waxed it. It looked shiny when he had finished and that was good enough for him :)

MrSix you have a new car now? I knew you were looking but didn't realise you had bought it!

Love the black roof and I will probably move to an MR2 in January from my Golf, something exactly like that one. What engine is it? Year? Mileage? Price? and how long did it take to find one in that condition?

Any mods planned or is it a short term change?

Sorry for all the Q's ;)

Yup, Golf is gone :)

This is a UK 1995 Toyota MR2 GTI-16 T-Bar. It's a 2.0l NASP engine producing 174bhp and 140ft/lbs torque.

It's done 62,000 miles and has been owned by an enthusiast for the last 8 years, driven in the rain twice in all that time and serviced every year regardless of the fact it only covered 20,000 miles in that time. I paid £3000 in the end (after being told the asking price of £3800 was too much I haggled him down by threatening to pull out of the deal).

It took me about 20 minutes on Pistonheads to find it! I just searched MR2 within 5 miles and it was there. Went to take a look and realised just how nice it was and how well it had been looked after.

The guy was only selling it because he's bought a 355 Spyder and he actually had tears in his eyes when I drove off in it, which gave me confidence that I had made the right decision with who I bought it from :)

It's a fantastic looking car and although the interior is pretty dull, you tend not to notice once you're driving :)

Electric stuff, no A/C but it has a removable roof so that suits me fine. It's also no rocket ship, but I'm going to enjoy driving it while I get through uni :)

UNlucky, I know how it feels to look forward to a day of car stuff only for it to start tipping down :( Nice car though :D

that's where I love having a double garage, I'll persist and wash it in the rain then in the garage it goes to do the real work

you should have got the motorbike and stuff out yours and cracked on!

When the car is in the garage the only way I can get out of it is by taking off the roof!

Interior doesn't bother me in the slightest with cars to be honest. You are the perfect candidate to report on the change from the golf to the MR2, how does it drive? is it noticeably faster? Are you happy with the performance, or was it underwhelming?

It looks like a really nice example, very tidy and the black Tbar is just awesome! How easy is it to remove the roof? (don't try this in the rain!)

Wow look at the condition of those wheels!! Looks really tidy, great car to say you're still in uni :D

He must have really loved it if he was crying even though he's just bought a 355 :D

I can't change my insurance over to it yet because it's a group 16 so I'll need to wait until I have my first year of NCB.

I did drive it back from the guys house though, however I didn't give it much because I was new to the car etc.

It's quicker than the Golf, obviously, and it's sounds great even as standard. I'm planning on fitting a Mongoose decat system and induction kit, so I'll report back with my thoughts once I've driven it properly :)

Add me on MSN if you want to chat about it though... a (dot) swords .at. ntlworld (dot) com

Indeed, it has been thoroughly looked after.
There's not a scratch on the car, except for the light swirling. And the wheels are only slightly blemished around the valve on two of the four.

Cool, I have added you with my work addy. I am tempted to buy one around Xmas time as my insurance runs out in January and I will have 1year NCB, I need something to keep me going for 5/6 months next year.

You could do far worse than an MR2 :)

I'm just uploading pics now, I finally got the chance to get out and finish the clean!

Right then, so there was a break in the weather and I managed to get the car cleaned

Even the engine bay is fairly clean!
