The Fury(X) Fiji Owners Thread

would you say that the noise characteristic is totally different to coil whine Gerard ? I've heard some people saying there might be coil whine on some of them, are you sure its the pumps ?

lol no was talking about the other cards :p

My blocks will arrive sometime next week. I'm still waiting to order two more Furys to fit the other two to lol. :o

I have got my blocks but I won't be fitting them until I have got a problem with one of my cards sorted.

Should be quite easy though without all the GDDR5 chips.

Definitely the pump as the sound doesn't change based on framerate. Its a whine accompanied by a kind of grinding sound, check the toms hardware link above, they also experienced it.

just listened to the video, heard a constant tone that sounded like a jet engine if you were inside a commercial airliner, is that the sound we are talking about ? wasnt able to hear any lower buzz type sounds

This is what my original card sounded like, it seems reduced in this card but still very audible when you have it beside you.

reminds me a bit of the noise a refrigerator makes, but more annoying,
I wouldnt be able to live with that, what a fail

I use a d5 vario watercooling pump on low speed and its basically inaudile unless you turn all of the fans off and press your ear to the case
and even then its a low sound

It doesn't sound that loud , would it still be audible if it had the side panel on and it was underneath a desk ?

In the first card it was still noticeable with the case panel on, but i have my tower next to me. The pitch of this is slightly lower so not sure. Its basically one of those things you have to hear in real life to get an idea of how irritating it is despite orangeys whinging to the contrary, its louder than my case fans so noticeable.

Orangey and Flopper are the AMD police so don't take it to heart, those of us that have actually OWNED the card and EXPERIENCED the noise know how annoying it is.

Indeed, orangey is basing it off recordings which doesn't really capture the pitch all that well as its so high pitched. My old iphone cant capture the pitch at all whereas my lumia 930 can get it to a good extent.

As above, this isn't some anti-AMD conspiracy - if I hated them so much I wouldn't have spent over £500 on a card from them in the first place.

It's because the pitch is different to the average case fan or cooler, while standard reference coolers on load can indeed be loud or even higher pitched - that's usually when you are gaming & either A - have volume up, or B - have headphones on.

While browsing the internet on the other hand, having a noticeably high pitched penetrating whine is not acceptable or something you can ignore. Frankly people who think those who are complaining are exaggerating I'm guessing have never owned a Fury X with the problem so have no idea what they are talking about.

Totally agree, The noise that is shown on the YouTube videos of this problem is unacceptable.

I am extremely sensitive to noise so this would properly drive me mental!

Also my PC lives in our open plan living/dining/kitchen area so it needs to be extra quiet.

what concerns me is not so much the noise itself since I will be removing the circuitboard but that the noise might prevent me from checking whether there is coil whine on the board itself, I dont want to void the warranty by dismantling it only to find that the board is no good

Just off thay video I bet your pc overall is a lot quieter then mine , but like you said if it's a particular noise , it can be ridiculously annoying and that's all you can hear !! And nowadays it shouldn't be happening with a brand new product :)
