Fudzilla have been reporting that NVidia have quickly been rethinking their cooling design for the 8800GT and have came to the solution of increasing the diameter of the fan by 10mm and the default RPM has been dropped considerably! However this is not the most astounding change! AT Max speeds the fan is only around 100rpm higher than the originals default fan speed
THis has been tested at expertview who basically say, launch that baby on full speed and it shift loads of air and stay perfectly quiet! In the charts you will see this much lower fan speed even decreases temps a further 2degrees. Remember the chart shows both cards first on their default speeds (auto fan speed old cooler/auto fan speed new cooler) and also their max speeds (4338.7rpm old cooler vs 1664.61rpm new cooler)! The results themselves make very good reading
