The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

I have a 980Ti and at 1920x1080 with 2xMSAA (with TXAA and 2x Reflection AA) it can drop to 50fps in grassy/tree areas.
GTAV can be a killer.

I spent all of yesterday diagnosing why my 980Ti G1 was performing badly compared to the reviews of it - I was getting around 60-70fps which, as the resolution was 1080p, was below my expectations considering the reported fps on many reviews.

I eventually pinned it down to the advanced graphics options that were hammering my CPU (i5 3570k @ 4.4GHz), bottlenecking it for the GPU - turning off/down the advanced graphics options seemed to free up CPU cycles so it doesn't bottleneck the card so much. Now I play at 80-100 fps, still with the CPU at 90%+, so now today's job is seeing if I can push it any further!

Hope this helps you out a bit, it sure took me a long time to troubleshoot. A tip is to watch your GPU usage in afterburner, if that isn't at 80%+ it may be likely that it is being bottlenecked somewhere.

I have the GTX 980 Ti SC ACX with an additional overclock and GTA @ 1440p runs like a dream with everything maxed. averaging around 75fps as I recall.

Of course, G-Sync helps.

My GPU usage was actually at 98% or so when it was running, and I had the advanced options turned off.

I think my problem is that I was running 4xMSAA at 1440p. Apparently this utterly kills your FPS. I was seeing on a review that dips down to 40fps on a 980Ti with MSAA on is quite normal? Another youtube benchmark had FPS like how you describe Valenni. He juse had TXAA on instead of any MSAA.

These benchmarks here seem to be in line with what I get (just a little worse since this is a ref card). Never realised MSAA was such a killer!

Gave FXAA and no MSAA a whirl, GPU usage down to high 80s while hitting 60fps. The times when the fps drops now is when the GPU is still not using full power, so that'll be the CPU bottleneck.

Time to turn off CPU hogs like Skype and so on when I play now then. :D

@ Mof New cable fixed it straight away.

Cant give links obviously, but it was a Cable Matters DP 2m Gold plated along with a mini dp adapter that came with my graphics card since I only have minidp slots.

Hope you get yours sorted!

That sounds more like it. Much more enjoyable @ 60 + fps.

Thanks Hiijinx. I'll try getting another cable and see if it helps.

No, classified is aluminium, its the kingpin that is the all copper heatsink

I didn't mean the heatsink but i think i found a picture which answered my question, real shame that it has this weird gold color on it.

Do htey ever allow stepups to classified or kingpin type cards or am I at an upgrade deadend with my SC ACX2.0 cards with EVGA?
