Could do with a new monitor too tbh, but I'm changing my board, cpu and ram to an X99 setup. If I sell the current kit I may put it towards buying a new screen.

RMA'd my MSI 6G as I was having the constant "nvlddmkms BSODs", OC's found no fault and are returning it.

So as I suspected its some random compatibility/driver issue with my machine

I stuck my old 7950 back in while it was gone and thats been fine, I'm still waiting on a friend to loan a 970 to see if it is just NVIDIA related.
I might ask if OC would let me swap it back to a FuryX, but yea I doubt they'll go for that.

I'm going to format and do another clean Windows install when putting the 980ti back in
other than that, the only other fix I can think of now is a whole new board, cpu and ram. Which is a good excuse to get a whole new board cpu and ram I spose!

Gigabyte G1 Gaming has two available BIOS options. F3 which my board arrived with is set to 300W with high speed fans. The newer F4 is set to 280W with reduced fan speed.

I have two Noctua AF-140's at the front of a HAF XB case. These are controlled with Bitfenix Recon ranging from 700 to 1100 depending on case temp. I don't notice the G1 (@1500/8000) running F4 BIOS above the Noctuas. It was noticeable under the F3 BIOS (@1550/8000). Temps on the other hand rise 3-4 degrees with the F4.

The G1 is a beast with excellent power delivery.

EVGA GTX 980Ti reference overheating?

Just received my EVGA GTX 980Ti "Reference Cooler" from OcUK.

This is replacing two EVGA GTX780 in SLI (also Reference Coolers). Prior to that I've had GTX580, and then a long-line all the way back to inception.

The rear mounting bracket of this new EVGA GTX 980Ti is getting very hot and I can smell a plastic burning smell, possibly the DisplayPort/DVI plastic shrouds?

Is it normal for the rear-bracket to get this hot? My previous cards were warm, but not can't touch warm!

(I do know that non-reference coolers are better, but I want the heat exhausted out of the back for SLI, plus my case isn't the best for air-flow).

Check the card temps via Afterburner or Gpuz, if ok the cards just burning off some new card smell and will clear up once it's been ran for a while.

To be fair mate I had the same smell to begin with, it's settled down completely now after one day. Don't ask me how but it has.

As for touching it...well I don't believe I'll be doing so with mines but the temps in general are really good on mines so far. Not the best ventilated case either.

My ASUS ref 980 Ti put out a bit of new GPU smell as well. Gone now..

Which one? I have the Air Boss X4 Ultra and its mahoosive but looks amazing posted some pics a few days back. Post No. 5786 2nd Aug. Very impressed, boosts to 1366.9Mhz runs extremely cool 26/27C idle and the hottest I've managed to get it was 65C running 4K Ultra settings in Metro 2033 Redux. Great card and very quiet too.

A big improvement!

I recently upgraded from a 670 to a 780Ti and that impressed me, so god only knows what it must be like going to a 980Ti!
