The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

How big is your HTPC case? I wouldn't get an aftermarket cooler if it's quite small to be honest, it will end up heating everything else up, including itself.

I have 14cm of room above the motherboard in my Silverstone LC17b - so the MSI Gaming would have been too big at 14.2cm but the 11cm EVGA ACX will fit fine. I have two intake fans 92mm on the front blowing over the 2 sides of the graphics card, an 80mm intake for the CPU and 2 exhaust fans on the back plus some mesh filter PCI backplate slots to allow passive exhausting behind the GPU.

I used to have SLI non blower GTX 580s and heat wasn't a problem (noise, on the other hand, was) so I think I should be fine. Up to now I have undervolted the front fans to 50% for silence during movies but honestly I only use it for gaming now so I can set the speed by the motherboard temps.

Anyway, this build was called the Caged Beast for having far more power than is reasonable in an HTPC enclosure: it will be fun to get back to those principles! :D

Well I couldn't resist it any longer and on the way home from work on Saturday I picked up a 980ti :) my first nVidia gpu I'm so excited to get it in my rig, not even had a chance to open up the box yet with the usual bank holiday family visiting, plus I had to sneak it out of my car and hide it when the misses was distracted (oops) now I'm gonna have to find a way of installing it without her noticing (knew I shouldn't have got a windowed case)

Haha sounds identical to how i handle my "new" components around the missus :D

Enjoy the card man!

"Didn't you have a different graphics card?"
"Nah... I just uhh... Painted it? Yeah. That."

Enjoy the card, though!

Think I'm going to say I'm rebuilding my pc and moving all the parts around lol try to blag that it's part of the "cooling system" that was hidden before :p

I built my rig in my sig and told her it was 90% funded by selling my ps4 and I only put a couple of hundred towards it lol she thinks it came to £500 (and still not got a proper monitor yet!)

Interesting seeing the GTX 980 TI Lightning struggling to overcome the Titan X OC.

Well aware the Lightning is for extreme overclockers but even the AMP Extreme reaches 1500MHz out the box that this fails to manage.

What's the word on pricing (I'd say about £650) and if around that mark who's going to buy one?

reviewers are universally rubbish at overclocking GPU's
