Some games just know how to fail an OC. I can bench all day with mine at 1480...run a few games like BF4...but witcher 3 is a TDR fest, and pCars can crash it too.

I dial back to 1440 and have no problems ever with my MSI 6g. wish it hit 1450..but nevermind.

My overclock is 100% stable on bench but with games, I seem to get my max on gta on a little less than max on everything else.

Still..every game I have thrown at it has been allowed some sort of significant overclock which I am more than happy with, especially on air.

How are people getting such big overclocks on the core, custom bios?

You will prob get a mix of custom bios, silicone lottery, extreme air and water.

Both my MSI gaming and Asus strix did 1500 without any modifications, just afterburner, asics both in the low 70's

I think from memory my strix is 77% asics, with power to 110% it wont boost any higher than 1440 no matter what I do with the volts.

How are people getting such big overclocks on the core, custom bios?

I'm just using afterburner and air, 1518 on the core stable although as I previously mentioned it's hitting 1418 out the box so I don't bother with the OC.

My Gigabyte G1 hit slightly better clocks, but my MSI 6G wouldn't do much past 1420.

Temps are fine, doesn't go over 73-74 whilst gaming and that's limiting the fan to 50%.

AB says it's hitting the 110% power though so I guess something needs unlocking for it to clock higher?

I get instability if it hits 73C, mine usually runs at 70% 70C at 1510, occaisioanlly hitting 71%/71C
not sure what is going on with your power though as mine sits around 90-95

to get my MSI to 1500 I also had to run the fan at 100% (but having such big fans even that wasn't at all noisy)

but you definitely don't need bios mods to hit 1500, you don't even need any voltage - I found that adding volts reduced the clocks I could hit

Wow, mines overclocked to 1540 and ive yet to see it go over 100% power usage and mine is set to 110%. Even when core is at 100% usage. I guess your hitting your power limit.

Yea not sure how but you'll need to find a way to extend that power usage %
perhaps a custom Bios?

I only start to get artifacts after 1570 only using afterburner and power setting set to max (139). It uses 112% power limit in most cases and no more.

My G1's are asic 86% and 77%.

I use a 120mm side intake fan to help clear the heat from the cards which have good spacing between them. Its noisier than I would like with the fans hitting around 73%.

Top card equalises at 75degrees after 4hours gameplay and bottom is 68.

I'm still going custom wc got most parts except the GPU coolers at the minute.

This is strange, I played around overclocking it as soon as I installed it and settled at 1440 like I said, I've just had another play with it and all of a sudden it's boosting to 1500 ok, but anything over that and the driver crashes.

Yes odd that it will use the power limit on such a low clock of 1440, it even goes over and I see 115% quite a lot.

It depends what your card is doing out of the box. I only need +82 on the core to hit 1500 so I don't bother with the OC as the difference is barely noticeable. If it were +250 or thereabouts then that's obviously a bigger boost.

Mine does 1380 out of the box.

With the temperature, power and voltage sliders to the right in AB it does 1405 at ~81C, auto fans at 58-61%.

Mine seems to clock better too. Haven't played with oc in ages...but maybe newer drivers and w10 preview helps. I'm running valley at 1518 which I've never done before!

If it's working properly, it should alter your clock speed slightly.

Well, I've had my trusty GTX 580 3GB for three years and I've finally admitted defeat and gone for an MSI GTX980ti Gaming Edition.

Playing Division has really put the old 580 to the test and has shown its age.

A little pre and post Heaven benchmark below showing nearly 3 x the performance.
