It means something to me, using the same hardware ive seen a 25%+ increase from upgrading, it dosent mean nothing at all.
Elpedro has a point though. What if your GTX275 had scored 25% less in 3dmark06 than your 4850? Would you have being disapoointed and sent it back?
When I got my 4870 it scored less in 3dmark06 than my 8800GTS 512 but in vantage and games (where it matters) is was considerable faster.
Its a one sided argument, you're obviously happy that you have a better card, in which I have no doubt about. But proving it through 3DM 2k6 means nothing, regardless if you are using the same hardware. You only make it mean something to you because a) its increased and b) self reassurance of your purchase in any form possible.
It does prove that its more than 25% faster in 3dmark, of that there is no doubt
Ive been playing The Last Remnant, the difference is night and day in this also.
Your CPU score destroys mine, but you need to oc that 275 a bit more to get the best out of it.

I benched it the other month comparing a clocked 8800GS 384mb to a clocked GTX 280...and my GTX 280 score was 167.06...my 8800GS 384mb score was 84.15...

went to pick up a palit from my local but they ran out, walked out with a gainward they substituted,

1st thing I did was to set the fan speed to 30% to keep it nice and inaudible
the clocks I settled with were 700 core / 2650 memory / 1500 shader
i could probably get a bit higher with the fan profile set to dynamic
also ignore the 3d mark scores, they are there to prove stability
(cpu is at default 2.33GHz and and nvidia settings are set at highest quality in cp and v-sync enabled)
any ways I've done a bit of testing
